THIS TONER CARTRIDGE DOES NOT HAVE INTEGRATED DRUM UNIT. THE DRUM IS A SEPARATE UNIT FROM THE TONER CARTRIDGE.
This is a compatible cartridge so there will be differences from the OEM cartridge. These differences will not affect the function of the cartridge.
Not Recognizing
Verify they have the correct cartridge for their specific printer model.
Make sure the toner cartridge is fully locked into the drum unit.
To remove and install the toner cartridge into an Okidata 10ex printer do the following;
– Press the cover release buttons and lift the cover.
– Grasp the lock lever and pull it towards the front of the printer to unlock the cartridge.
– Lift the toner cartridge out of the drum unit. It is important not to remove the drum unit with the toner cartridge.
– Grasp the lock lever and place the left side of the new toner cartidge into the toner well, under the tab. If the toner cartridge appears to be too small then the drum unit was probably removed with the old toner cartridge. See the above step.
– Lower the right side, aligning the lock lever slot with the ridge in the drum unit.
– When the cartridge is in place, push the lock lever forward until it stops.
– Any time the toner cartridge is replaced the LED array MUST be cleaned. Failure to do so may result in faded vertical areas or light printing down a page. The LED array is located on the underside of the printer cover. Wipe it gently with a clean, dry, lint-free cloth. Do NOT use moisture of any kind.
– Lower the printer cover and press firmly to close.
Print Quality Issues
There is a white piece of plastic tape that covers the toner shutters on the cartridge which must be removed prior to installation.
Try rocking the cartridge back and forth a few times to redistribute the toner powder inside the cartridge.
Verify the cartridge is locked into the drum unit properly. Moving the lock lever to the back of the printer opens the toner shutters on the bottom of the cartridge which drops the toner into the drum unit.
If the prints are coming out with vertical light areas or light printing down the page make sure the LED array was cleaned when the toner cartridge was installed. See the toner replacement instructions outlined previously.
There is a cleaning page process that can be run through the printer. The cleaning page process removes residual impurities from the printing surfaces. Printing a cleaning page helps reduce print quality issues such as repeated marks, blotches, and shaded areas. To run this cleaning do the following;
– Press ON-LINE to set the printer offline.
– Press </Recover and >/Reset simultaneously and hold for 2 seconds. CLEANING, MANUAL LETTER REQUEST displays.
– Pull down the manual feed tray and insert a clean sheet of 8 ½ x 11 paper. The print rollers will grip the paper and PRINT CLEANING displays.
– The cleaning page prints, then OFF-LINE displays.
– Press ON-LINE to enter online mode.
Ghosting, lines, streaking, and repeating defects will be a drum related issue. The drum unit is separate from the toner cartridge and is a replaceable, maintenance item. After a certain period of usage the drum will need replacing.
Not Fitting
Verify they have the correct cartridge for their specific printer model. Verify they are installing the toner cartridge into the pre-existing drum unit. If they are saying the cartridge is too small then they are not installing the toner into the drum unit.
Make sure that the cartridge is locked properly in the drum unit. Verify that the white protective tape has been removed from the cartridge.
