THIS IS NOT A TONER CARTRIDGE. THIS IS JUST THE DRUM UNIT.
Not Recognizing
Verify they have the correct cartridge for their specific printer model.
This drum unit does not have a smart chip. The drum counter must be MANUALLY reset when a new drum is installed. If you are replacing the drum while the printer is displaying to replace the drum unit then the printer will ask if a new drum is installed after you insert the new drum. However, if you are replacing the drum unit before the printer tells you to then you will need to go through the printer menus and reset the drum count.
There is also a fuse on the side of the drum. If this fuse is broken or loose it may cause the printer not to recognize a drum unit is installed. Check the fuse to make sure it hasn’t become dislodged from its holder.
To remove and install the drum unit into a Samsung SCX-5115 printer do the following;
– Open the side cover, then the front cover. The side cover must be opened before opening the front cover.
– Turn the cartridge locking lever upwards to unlock the toner cartridge, then pull the toner cartridge out.
– Pull the used drum unit out.
– Slide the new drum unit into the printer and make sure not to touch the surface of the OPC drum.
– Reinstall the toner cartridge, and then lock the lever.
– Close the front cover and side cover. The LCD displays “NEW DRUM? 1. YES 2. NO”.
– Select “YES” by pressing 1. The printer will reset the drum count.
IMPORTANT: If you are replacing the drum unit before the printer is instructing you to do so then you will need to go through the printer’s menus to reset the drum counter. Failure to do so will result in the printer giving the error to replace the drum unit before its actually end of life. To reset the drum count do the following;
– Press Menu/Exit then Maintenance from the control panel.
– Use ▲ or ▼ until “NEW DRUM” appears on the bottom line of the display, and press Mode/Enter.
– “NEW DRUM UNIT?” appears on the top line and “1. YES 2. NO” appears on the bottom line. Press 1 to select “YES”.
Print Quality Issues
There is a piece of paper which covers the OPC drum that much be removed prior to installation.
Visually inspect the OPC drum unit. Do NOT touch the OPC drum. A soft, clean, dry, lint-free, cloth can be used to gently wipe the OPC drum. Do NOT use moisture of any kind.
If there are streaks or spots on the prints, the drum unit may requiring cleaning. There is a drum cleaning procedure on the printer that should be run. To run this cleaning feature on the Samsung SCX-5115 printer do the following;
– Make sure plain white paper is loaded.
– Press Menu and then press ▲ or ▼ until “MAINTENANCE” appears on the top line.
– “CLEAN DRUM” appears on the bottom line of the display. Press Mode/Enter.
– The printer prints out a cleaning page. Toner particles on the drum surface are affixed to the paper. Repeat this process 3 or 4 times.
Light printing may be toner cartridge related. Try shaking the toner cartridge.
Not Fitting
Verify they have the correct drum unit for their specific printer model. Make sure they are not trying to replace a toner cartridge, this is just an imaging drum unit. Check inside the printer for any obstructions. Check the drum unit itself for physical damage.
