INK TANK – THESE DO NOT HAVE THE PRINT HEADS INTEGRATED.  DO NOT DO THE PAPER TOWEL METHOD WITH THESE CARTRIDGES.

The black cartridge is pigment based ink whereas the color is dye based ink.

Not Recognizing

Verify they have the correct cartridge for their specific printer model.

Make sure they are installing the black or tri-color cartridge into the correct slot in the printer.

There is a smart chip located on the end of the cartridge.  Check the chip for damage or debris.  A lint-free cloth can be used to gently wipe the copper connections.

Do NOT touch the chip contacts with your fingers as fingerprint oil can cause bad readings.

With the cartridges removed, clean the contacts in the printer that make contact with the chips.

To remove and install the cartridges into a HP Officejet D135 Series printer do the following;

–          Open the print-carriage access door by lifting the handle until the door locks into place.  The print carriage moves to the center of the printer.

–          After the carriage stops moving, press the gray button to release the ink cartridge that needs replacing (black is on the left, tri-color is on the right), then pull it up and out of its slot.

–          Make sure you have the correct cartridge for the one being replaced.  Push the new cartridge into the appropriate slot, black on the left and tri-color on the right, until it clicks into place.

–          Close the print-carriage access door.  The printer will go through a print nozzle cleaning to prime the new cartridge(s).

Print Quality Issues

There is pull tape seal located on the bottom of the cartridges which must be removed prior to installation.

For any print quality issues a print nozzle cleaning should be performed.  To perform this print nozzle cleaning do the following;

–          Press MENU.

–          Press 7, then press 2.  This selects the Status and Maintenance menu, then selects the Clean Printheads option.

If the first cleaning doesn’t resolve the issue a second cleaning should be performed but allow the printer to sit for 10-15 minutes before attempting to print so that the ink can soak on the printhead.  Printhead cleanings should be done sparingly as they do consume a lot of ink to complete.

The printheads are separate, replaceable, maintenance items.  There is an individual printhead for each color that install into a printhead carriage.  The printheads will need to be replaced after a certain period of usage.

Not Fitting

Verify they have the correct cartridges for their specific printer model.   Make sure they are installing the black into the left slot and the tri-color into the right slot.  Make sure the seal tape has been removed from the bottom of the cartridge.  Check inside the printer for any obstructions.  Check the cartridge itself for physical damage.
