THIS TONER CARTRIDGE DOES NOT HAVE THE IMAGING DRUM INTEGRATED. THE DRUM UNIT IS A SEPARATE, REPLACEABLE, MAINTENACE ITEM.
Not Recognizing
Verify they have the correct cartridge for their specific model printer.
This cartridge does not use a smart chip. Instead, the cartridge uses a resistor to tell the printer which brand it is. In this case, being a Samsung, it would use a 30k ohm resistor. If they are getting an INVALID CARTRIDGE message this means the cartridge has the wrong resistor installed and we should reship.
Make sure the cartridge is installed correctly and is fully inserted into the printer.
To remove and install this cartridge in a Samsung SCX-5112 do the following;
– Pull the release lever to open the side cover.
– Open the front cover.
– Turn the cartridge locking lever upwards to release the toner cartridge.
– Slide the new toner cartridge into the printer.
– Turn the cartridge locking lever downwards until it locks into place.
– Close the front cover, then the side cover. The display shows “NEW TONER? 1. YES 2. NO”.
– Select “YES” by pressing 1.
Print Quality Issues
There is a protective piece of paper and bubble wrap held on by tape that must be removed prior to installation.
There’s a rubber roller on the front of the cartridge which dispenses the toner powder. You can check the rubber roller for cracks or damage. Do NOT touch the rubber roller and do NOT clean off the rubber roller.
If the toner is smearing off the paper or isn’t adhering properly, make sure the paper settings on the printer match the paper type being used. Thicker paper, such as labels or bonded paper, require a different paper setting to allow more heating while printing to ensure the toner melts properly to the paper. Trying to print on thicker paper while under that standard paper setting will cause the toner not to get enough heat to melt properly.
Holding the cartridge by its ends, rock the cartridge back and forth a few times to evenly distribute the toner powder inside the cartridge.
Leaking
This toner does not have any pull seal tabs and as a result a little toner dust on the cartridge is normal. Vibrations during shipping may cause the roller to rotate a little and allow a little toner powder to leak. This is normal. You can clean excess toner dust off the cartridge by gently wiping the cartridge with a clean, dry, lint-free cloth or gently blowing on it. Be careful with compressed air as this may blow too powerfully and blow toner powder out of the cartridge. Do NOT wipe down or blow air onto the rubber roller on the front of the cartridge.
Not Fitting
Verify they have the correct cartridge for their specific printer model. Make sure the bubble wrap and protective paper have been removed from the cartridge. Check inside the printer for any obstructions. Check the cartridge itself for physical damage.
