THIS IS A TONER THAT HAS THE OPC DRUM BUILT INTO THE CARTRIDGE ITSELF AND IS REPLACED AS ONE WHOLE UNIT. THERE IS NO SEPARATE DRUM UNIT.
Not Recognizing
Verify they have the correct cartridge for their specific printer model.
There is no smart chip on this cartridge. Instead, the cartridge uses electrical current inside the toner to sense the presence of toner powder. Shaking the toner can help extend the life of near empty cartridges and remove the “Toner Low/Prepare New Toner” message until the cartridge is too empty for shaking to make an effect. At this point, the toner is empty and needs replacing.
Verify that the cartridge is installed properly and that the front cover to the machine is fully closed.
To remove and install the 104 into a Canon ImageClass MF4150 series printer do the following;
– Lift the scanning platform until it is locked (A), and open the printer cover (B).
– Grab the cartridge by its handle and pull the toner cartridge from the printer.
– Hold the new toner cartridge by its handle. Align the guide (A) on the left side of the cartridge with the groove inside the printer. Insert the toner cartridge into the printer as far as it will go.
– Push the toner cartridge to make sure it is properly set in the printer.
– Close the printer cover and lower the scanning platform.
Print Quality Issues
There’s a pull tape seal on the side of the cartridge which must be removed prior to installation. It is important that this pull tape seal is fully removed. If the customer is saying the cartridge is printing blank pages or printed 2-3 pages and now is printing blank then this pull tape seal has not been removed or has broken off inside the cartridge while being removed.
Gently rock the toner cartridge 5 or 6 times to distribute the toner powder evenly inside the cartridge.
If black streaks appear with printing, the fuser roller in the main unit may be dirty. The roller should be cleaned each time the toner cartridge is replaced to help maintain print quality. To clean the fuser roller do the following;
– Make sure to have plain white paper readily available.
– Press [Additional Functions].
– Press [◄-] or [+►] to select <ADJUST./CLEANING>, then press [OK].
– Load paper into the printer.
– Press [◄-] or [+►] to select <FIX. UNIT CLEANING>, then press [OK].
– The cleaning will start. When finished, the display returns to the standby mode.
If the toner is smearing off the paper or isn’t adhering properly, make sure the paper settings on the printer match the paper type being used. Thicker paper, such as labels or bonded paper, require a different paper setting to allow more heating while printing to ensure the toner melts properly to the paper. Trying to print on thicker paper while under that standard paper setting will cause the toner not to get enough heat to melt properly.
The OPC drum is located on the bottom of the cartridge protected by a spring loaded plastic shutter. Lift the shutter to visually inspect the OPC drum for damage or debris. Do NOT touch the drum. A soft, clean, dry, lint-free cloth can be used to gently clean the OPC drum if needed. Do NOT use moisture of any kind.
Not Fitting
Verify they have the correct cartridge for their specific printer model. Make sure the cartridge is being installed in the correct direction. Check inside the printer for any obstructions that may be interferring with the installation of the toner cartridge. Check the toner cartridge itself for physical damage. Verify that the pull tape seal has been removed from the side of the cartridge.
