THIS IS A TONER THAT HAS THE IMAGING DRUM BUILT INTO THE CARTRIDGE ITSELF AND IS REPLACED AS ONE WHOLE UNIT.  THERE IS NO SEPARATE DRUM.

Not Recognizing

Verify the customer has the correct cartridge for their specific printer.

There’s a smart chip located on the front of the cartridge.  Visually check the chip for damage or debris.  You can use a clean, dry, lint-free cloth or Q-tip to gently clean the four gold contact points.

To remove and install this toner cartridge into a Dell Laser 1130 do the following;

–          Open the front printer cover.

–          Grasp the toner cartridge by its handle and pull the toner from the printer.

–          Hold the new toner cartridge by the handle and slowly insert the cartridge into the opening in the printer.  Tabs on the sides of the cartridge and corresponding grooves within the printer will guide the cartridge into the correct position until it locks into place completely.

–          Close the front cover.  Make  sure that the cover is securely closed.

Print Quality Issues

There is an orange plastic protective cover over the OPC drum on the cartridge.  Remove this cover prior to installation.

There is a pull tape seal on the side of the cartridge which must be removed prior to installation.  It is important to fully remove this pull tape seal.  If the cartridge is printing blank or if the cartridge printed 2-3 pages and now prints blank then the pull tape seal has not been removed or broke off inside the cartridge while being removed.

The OPC drum is located on the bottom of the cartridge.  Visually check for scratches or debris on the drum.  Do NOT touch the OPC drum.  If need be, clean the OPC drum using a dry, soft, lint-free cloth.  Do NOT use moisture of any kind.  There is no protective drum shutter on this cartridge to protect the OPC drum so caution must be taken in handling this cartridge to prevent damage to the drum.  Be careful with setting the cartridge down on a surface because being that the OPC drum is located on the bottom of the cartridge it can easily be scratched or nicked.

Slowly shake the cartridge 5 or 6 times to distribute the toner evenly inside the cartridge.

If the toner is smearing off the paper or isn’t adhering properly, make sure the paper settings on the printer match the paper type being used.  Thicker paper, such as labels or bonded paper, require a different paper setting to allow more heating while printing to ensure the toner melts properly to the paper.  Trying to print on thicker paper while under that standard paper setting will cause the toner not to get enough heat to melt properly.

If the pages are coming out blurred or smeared, a cleaning page can be printed to help try to resolve these issues.  To print this cleaning page do the following;

–          In the ready mode, press and hold the Cancel button for about 10 seconds.  The printer will print out a page that will pick up toner dust and particles in the print path.

Not Fitting

Verify they have the correct cartridge for their specific printer model.  Make sure that the orange plastic protective cover has been removed as well as the pull tape seal on the side.  Check inside the printer for any obstructions.  Check the cartridge itself for physical damage.
