INK TANK – These do not have the print heads integrated. The print heads are a separate, replaceable, maintenance item. Do NOT do the paper towel method with these cartridges.
The 80 Black cartridge is UV pigment based while the 80XL color cartridges are UV dye cartridges. UV means they are fade resistant to ultra-violet light found in sunlight and other light sources.
Not Recognizing
Verify they have the correct cartridges for their specific model printer.
There is a smart chip located on the end of the cartridge above the nozzles. Check the chip for damage or debris. You can use a Q-tip to gently clean off the gold contacts.
Verify the cartridge is installed correctly and fully inserted into the printer. Also, check to make sure they are installing the correct color into the correct slot.
To remove and install these ink tanks into an HP Designjet 1050 printer do the following;
– Press the Top key on the front panel to go to the main menu.
– Select the Ink System Menu on the front panel by using the ▲ and ▼ keys, and then press the Enter key.
– Press the ▲ and ▼ keys until “Replace Ink Cartridge” is selected. Press Enter.
– Select “Yes (replace)” and press Enter.
– The front panel displays either of the either of the message displays shown below, depending on how the ink cartridge replacement was initiated: by the printer (because it’s empty) or, by the user.
– Remove the corresponding color ink cartridge by pushing the dimpled recess in the ink cartridge inward and upward. The is releases the ink cartridge, you can then pull it out horizontally.
– Pull the cartridge free of the printer. Make sure to note the locations of the colors.
– Insert the new ink cartridge into the ink cartridge slot labeled with the same color.
– Slide the ink cartridge into the slot until you feel some resistance and stop.
– Press firmly with one finger inwards and then downwards until the ink cartridge clicks into place.
– The front panel displays;
– Press the Enter key to continue.
– Open the plug on the cartridge that opens a vent hole. You will want to open the bottom plug, do NOT open the top plug.
Print Quality Issues
Make sure the plug has been opened on the cartridge. This opens a vent hole which allows the ink to leave the cartridge properly.
The printer has an Image Quality Print page that can be printed to help determine print quality problems. To print this do the following;
– Go to the printer submenu and press Enter.
– Select Print Quality from the Utilities/Test Prints menu, then press Enter to print the test.
– There will be a nozzle check pattern for each color. Look at each nozzle check pattern to see if you can find a color which is not printing properly or if it is occuring across multiple colors.
If one or more of the colors displays print quality issues a print nozzle cleaning must be performed. To perform a nozzle cleaning do the following;
– Go to the Printer submenu and press Enter.
– Go to the Utilities/Recover Printheads.
– Select the printhead color that is responsible for the problem. The printer will try to ‘Recover’ the printhead. If you are not sure which printhead color is giving you the problem select all of the printheads. Please wait as the process of recovery takes a few minutes.
If the print quality issue still persists then that color printhead will need replacing. The printheads are separate, replaceable, maintenance items and will need to be replaced after a certain period of usage.
Not Fitting
Verify they have the correct cartridges for their specific printer model. Make sure the correct color is being installed into the correct color slot. Check inside the printer for any obstructions. Check the cartridges themselves for physical damage.
