INK TANK – THESE DO NOT HAVE THE PRINT HEADS INTEGRATED. DO NOT DO THE PAPER TOWEL METHOD WITH THESE CARTRIDGES.
Not Recognizing
Verify you have the correct cartridges for your specific model of printer.
Make sure the correct color is being installed into the correct color slot.
There’s a smart chip located on the end of the cartridge. Check the chip for damage or debris. A Q-tip can be used to reach and wipe the gold contacts.
Make sure the cartridge is firmly pressed into place and installed correctly. If the cartridge is not pushed in far enough the chip will not make proper contact.
To remove and install these cartridges into a HP Designjet 9000 printer do the following;
– Open the ink cover.
– Remove the color ink tank you are replacing. Make note of the locations of the colors.
– Make sure you have the correct color cartridge for the color you are replacing and make sure the correct color is being installed into the correct slot. Insert the new ink tank into the printer.
– Close the ink cover.
Print Quality Issues
For any print quality related issue a print nozzle cleaning should be performed. On this printer there are two stages of cleaning; Normal and Strong. The Normal cleaning should be run first and if the issue is not resolved then move onto the Strong cleaning. To run a nozzle cleaning do the following;
– Press the ONLINE key.
– Press the SHIFT key to display the PH.RECOVERY menu.
– Press the ◄ key to enter the PH.RECOVERY menu.
– Press the OK key to confirm.
– Press the ▲ or ▼ keys to select NORMAL ALL.
Or
If you are running the cleaning a second time run the STRONG ALL option
– Press the OK key.
– Make sure that the waste ink bottle is not full, and then press the OK key again.
– When cleaning is completed, the PH.RECOVERY option is displayed.
– Press the ◄ key to return to the offline mode.
To help narrow down print quality issues there is an image quality page that can be printed. To print this page do the following;
– Press the ONLINE key and the SHIFT key twice.
– Select the ADJUST menu using the ◄ key.
– In the ADJUST submenu, scroll to TEST PRINTS and press the OK key.
– In the TEST PRINTS menu scroll to the IQ PRINT option and press the OK key.
– Press the OK key to start printing.
Below are examples of the print results you may see in the Image Quality Print and the recommended action.
If the IQ print quality is satisfactory like above, you can print on the media without changing printer or heater settings or running a print nozzle cleaning
If you see banding in one color (in the black color for example in the image above), then the print nozzles need to be cleaned
If you see banding in all colors then you need to calibrate the printer for the media you have loaded or the heater temperature and/or print mode settings need to be changed. See the User’s Guide for instructions on performing these changes.
Not Fitting
Verify you have the correct cartridges and colors for your specific printer model. This is important due to the number of colors in this series. Check the inside of the printer for obstructions. Check the cartridge themselves for physical damage.
