THIS TONER CARTRIDGE DOES NOT HAVE INTEGRATED DRUM UNIT.  THE DRUM IS A SEPARATE UNIT FROM THE TONER CARTRIDGE.

This toner cartridge comes with a new waste toner box that must be replaced at the same time as the toner cartridge. It also comes with an extra waste toner box in case the box needs to be replaced before the next toner change.  Also included are a grid cleaner and a knob for redistributing the toner powder inside the cartridge.

Not Recognizing

Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model.

There is no smart chip on this cartridge.  The page count is manually reset by the user when the new toner cartridge is installed.  Be sure that YES was selected when the printer prompted if a new toner was installed during the toner replacement.

Make sure the cartridge is properly installed and fully inserted.  When the toner cartridge is installed into the printer a small shutter will be opened on the cartridge which dumps the toner powder into the printer.

To remove and install both the toner cartridge and the waste toner box in the Kyocera Mita 2540, 3040, and 3060 printers do the following;

NOTE:  There are critical cleaning steps that must done at the same time as the waste toner box and toner cartridge replacement.  Failure to complete these steps may cause damage to the machine as well give print quality issues.

–          Open the front cover.

–          Remove the waste toner box.

–          Pull the cleaner rod out slowly as far as it will go, and then push it back in.  Repeat this 2 or 3 times.  Do NOT pull strongly on the rod or pull it out completely.

–          Hold the main charger to the right and pull it out about 2 inches.

–          Take the grid cleaner provided with our cartridge out of its bag and remove the cap.

–          Align the grid cleaner with the notch and attach it to the printer.

–          While gently holding the grid cleaner in place with your left hand, pull the main charger out fully and then push it back to a position were the roller (A) does not quite reach the white pad on the grid cleaner.  Repeat 2 or 3 times.  When pushing the main charger back in, take care not to push it all the way in.  This could result in damage to copies.

–          With the main charger pulled out about 2 inches, remove the grid cleaner.  Then push the main charger back in fully, applying pressure in the direction shown by the arrow so that the main charger is in its designated position.

–          Install the new waste toner box that was provided with our cartridge.

–          Remove the cleaning brush (blue colored).

–          Pull up the left cover lever and open the left cover.

–          Run the cleaning brush from side to side along the separator to remove any dirt or debris.

–          Run the cleaning brush from side to side along the transfer roller, rotating by using the gear at the end to remove any dirt.

–          After cleaning, return the cleaning brush to its location and close the left cover.

–          Push the toner cartridge stopper to the right and pull out the toner cartridge.  Do not pull the toner cartridge out completely as it could drop onto the floor.

–          Hold the toner cartridge in both hands and remove slowly.

–          Hold the new toner cartridge upright and insert the blue knob provided with our cartridge onto the larger white gear on the cartridge that has the grooves to accept it.  Twist the knob several times clockwise to loosen the toner powder inside the cartridge.  Make sure to REMOVE the blue knob once finished.  Click on the YouTube video below to view a video on using the blue knob.

Print Quality Issues

Be sure that all the cleaning steps outlined before were done and completed properly.

If the prints are coming out light, remove the toner cartridge.  Re-install the blue knob and twist a few times to loosen the toner powder inside the cartridge as outlined in the previous instructions.  Remove, the blue knob and then shake the toner side to side 5 more times to evenly distribute the toner inside.

Make sure that the cartridge is fully inserted into the printer.  When the cartridge locks into place this opens the toner shutter on the cartridge releasing the toner powder into the drum reservoir.  If the cartridge is not fully inserted then the toner shutter may not be open or only partially open causing light or blank prints.

Streaking, ghosting, lines, and repeating image defects are drum related issues.

The drum unit is separate from the toner cartridge.  The drum shouldn’t need to be replaced very often in this particular printer series.  The estimated page yield for the drum unit and fuser unit in this printer is around 300,000 pages at 5%.  However, the drum is replaceable and will eventually need replacing.  Usually after around 12 toner cartridges (toner cartridge page yield is around 24,000 at 5%).

Not Fitting

Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model.  Make sure the blue knob was removed from the cartridge.  Check inside the printer for any obstructions.  Make sure the cartridge is being installed in the correct orientation.  Check the cartridge itself for physical damage.
