THIS IS A TONER THAT HAS THE OPC DRUM BUILT INTO THE CARTRIDGE ITSELF AND IS REPLACED AS ONE WHOLE UNIT.  THERE IS NO SEPARATE DRUM UNIT.

Not Recognizing

Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model.

There is a smart chip located on the front of the cartridge.  Check the chip for damage or debris.  A clean, dry, lint-free cloth can be used to gently wipe the gold contacts.

Verify that the cartridge is fully inserted into the printer and that the printer cover is fully closed.

To remove and install this toner into a Lexmark T430 Series printer do the following;

–          Open the upper front door.

–          Grasp the print cartridge by the handle and lift it out.

–          While the toner cartridge is out and before you install the new one some minor cleaning should be done to prevent print quality issues.  Using a clean, dry, lint-free cloth gently clean the shaded areas by wiping toward the front of the printer.  Do NOT use moisture of any kind.

–          Hold the new print cartridge by the handle and insert it into the printer.  Align the tabs on each side of the cartridge with the slots on each side of the print cartridge cradle.

–          Slide the cartridge in until it snaps into place.

–          Close the upper front door.  Make sure the door snaps on both sides, or the printer will not function properly.

Print Quality Issues

There is a red plastic protective piece that must be removed prior to installation.  There’s also a piece of foam that surrounds the cartridge which must be removed.  Be careful not to touch the OPC drum on the bottom of the cartridge.

Try gently rocking the cartridge a few times to evenly re-distribute the toner powder inside the cartridge.

The OPC drum is located on the bottom of the cartridge.  Be careful with placing the cartridge down on a surface as the OPC drum is easily nicked, dented, or damaged.  Visually inspect the OPC drum for damage or debris.  Do NOT touch the OPC drum.  A soft, lint-free, dry, clean cloth can be used to gently clean the drum.  Do NOT use moisture of any kind.

If the toner is smearing off the paper or isn’t adhering properly, make sure the paper settings on the printer match the paper type being used.  Thicker paper, such as labels or bonded paper, require a different paper setting to allow more heating while printing to ensure the toner melts properly to the paper.  Trying to print on thicker paper while under that standard paper setting will cause the toner not to get enough heat to melt properly.

Compressed air can be used to clean inside the printer with the toner cartridge removed.  Excess toner powder build up inside the printer can cause dots, excess loose toner on the page, or noises and blowing compressed in the printer can help clear out the excess toner dust.  Do NOT use moisture of any kind.

Not Fitting

Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model.  Check to make sure all the seals and protective clips have been removed from the cartridge.  Check inside the printer to see if there’s any debris that may be causing the cartridge not to fit.  Make sure the cartridge is being installed into the guides built into the inside of the printer.
