INK TANK – THESE DO NOT HAVE THE PRINT HEADS INTEGRATED.  DO NOT DO THE PAPER TOWEL METHOD WITH THESE CARTRIDGES

There are 8 different color cartridges in this series.  It is important to make sure the correct color is being installed into the correct color slot on the printer.

These are all pigment based ink.

Not Recognizing

Verify you have the correct cartridges for your specific model of printer.

There’s a smart chip located on the front inside of the cartridge.  Check the chip for damage or debris.  A Q-tip can be used to reach and wipe the gold contacts.

Make sure the cartridge is firmly pressed into place and installed correctly.  If the cartridge is not pushed down far enough the chip will not make proper contact.  It is also important to make sure the correct color is being installed into the correct slot.  There are 8 different color cartridges in this series.

To remove and install these cartridges into an Epson Stylus Pro GS6000 do the following;

–          Press the ink compaartment cover to open it.

–          Remove the color cartridge you are replacing from the printer.  Make sure to keep note on the location of the color.

–          Hold the cartridge with the arrow pointing toward the printer.  Then insert the cartridge into the slot.  Don’t force it in.

–          Close the ink compartment cover.

Print Quality Issues

A print head cleaning should be performed for any print quality issues.  For this particular printer there are stages of cleaning that can be performed.  It is best to start with a medium cleaning and progress to heavy if medium doesn’t resolve the issue.  To perform the cleaning do the following;

–          Press the Menu button.

–          Press the ▼ button until Maintenance is highlighted, then press Menu.

–          Press the ▼ button until Cleaning (Medium) is highlighted then press Menu.

–          Press the Enter button to start the cleaning cycle.

–          When the cleaning finishes the power light will stop flashing.

Print a test page to see if the problem has been resolved.  If not, repeat the steps above except select Cleaning (Heavy) this time to run a more aggressive cleaning.  Cleaning does consume ink so it should be done sparingly.  After running the heavy cleaning allow the printer to sit for 15 minutes before attempting to print.  This allows the ink to soak on the print head and help soften any dried ink which may have accumulated.

Using a paper towel to cover the ink nozzle, vigorously shake the ink cartridge.  This helps remix the liquid ink inside the cartridge to prevent clotting on the print head.

Not Fitting

Verify you have the correct cartridges for your specific printer model.  Make sure that the correct color is being installed into the correct color slot.  There are a lot of colors in this series of cartridges so it is important to make sure the correct one is going into the correct slot.  Check inside the printer for any obstructions which may be stopping the cartridge from installing properly.  Check the cartridge itself for physical damage.
