THIS IS A TONER THAT HAS THE OPC DRUM BUILT INTO THE CARTRIDGE ITSELF AND IS REPLACED AS ONE WHOLE UNIT. THERE IS NO SEPARATE DRUM UNIT.
Not Recognizing
Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model.
There’s a smart chip located on the front of each toner cartridge which has four gold connection points. Make sure the chip is clean and undamaged. You can use a dry, clean, lint-free cloth to clean the connections.
Make sure the cartridge is installed correctly and is fully inserted into the printer.
To remove and install this toner into a Ricoh SP 5100n printer do the following;
– Open the top cover. Grab the handle on the toner cartridge and pull it out of the printer.
– Hold the toner cartridge by the handle and slowly insert the cartridge into the printer. Tabs on the sides of the cartridge and corresponding grooves within the printer will guide the cartridge into the correct position until it locks into place completely.
– Close the top cover. Make sure that the cover is securely closed.
Print Quality Issues
There is a flexible plastic holder on the back of the cartridge which must be removed prior to installation.
There may be a pull tape seal on the side of the cartridge which must be removed prior to installation. If the cartridge is printing blank pages then this means there’s a pull tape seal that needs to be removed. If the customer states the cartridge printed 1-3 pages and now prints blank pages then the pull tape seal hasn’t been removed or broke off inside the cartridge while being removed.
The OPC drum is located on the bottom of the cartridge protected by a spring loaded plastic shutter. Lift the shutter to visually inspect the OPC drum for damage or debris. Do NOT touch the drum. A clean, soft, dry, lint-free cloth can be used to gently wipe the OPC drum if needed. Do NOT use moisture of any kind.
Thoroughly roll the cartridge 5 or 6 times to distribute the toner evenly inside the cartridge.
Not Fitting
Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model. Check inside the printer to see if there are any obstructions which may be hindering the cartridge from installing. Check the cartridge itself for physical damaged. Make sure you are installing the cartridge with the chip facing the printer and that the cartridge is inserting using the grooves inside the printer.
