THIS IS A TONER THAT HAS THE OPC DRUM BUILT INTO THE CARTRIDGE ITSELF AND IS REPLACED AS ONE WHOLE UNIT.  THERE IS NO SEPARATE DRUM UNIT.

Not Recognizing

Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model.

There is no smart chip on this toner cartridge.  Make sure that the cartridge is fully inserted into the printer.  Try shaking the cartridge to redistribute the toner powder inside the cartridge.

To remove and install the toner cartridge into a Pitney Bowes 9920 printer do the following;

NOTE:  Other printers that use this toner is a similar process, for specific instructions on a particular printer refer to the User’s Guide for that printer.

–          Push the release button on the right side to open the printer cover.  As soon as you open the cover you will hear an audible alarm.  This will stop in approx. 10 seconds or you can press STOP to turn off the alarm immediately.

–          Remove the old cartridge from the printer being sure to grasp the middle of the cartridge firmly.  Pull the cartridge directly out of the printer.

–          Install the new toner cartridge by aligning the arrow and the projection on both sides and insert the cartridge into the printer.  Push the cartridge all the way in.

–          Close the printer cover firmly.

IMPORTANT:  Anytime a new toner cartridge is installed the printer cleaning procedure must be performed.  Failure to do so may result in damage to the printer.  To perform the cleaning procedure on a Pitney Bowes 9920 do the following;

–          Press FUNCTION

–          Press 12 and then YES

–          Press YES.  The printer will display to wait for the cleaning charts.  3 test charts will print with a diagonal black pattern on them.

–          When the test charts have been printed, remove them from the paper exit tray and place them, face down, in the upper cassette.  Close the cassette.  The display will read Cleaning Printer.

–          The test charts will automatically feed into the printer and clean the fuser rollers.  When finished the printer will return to the system ready mode.

Print Quality Issues

There’s a pull tape seal on the side of the cartridge which must be removed prior to installation.  It is important that this pull tape seal is fully removed.  If the cartridge is printing blank pages or printed 2-3 pages and now prints blank then the pull tape seal has not been removed or has broken off inside the cartridge.

Be sure that the cleaning procedure outlined before was performed when the new toner cartridge was installed.  It is very important to run this cleaning procedure any time a new toner cartridge is installed or damage to the printer may occur.

Gently rock the cartridge from end to end 5 or 6 times to redistribute the toner powder inside the cartridge.

The OPC drum is located on the bottom of the cartridge and is protected by a spring loaded plastic shutter.  Pull open the plastic shutter to visually inspect the OPC drum for damage or debris.  Do NOT touch the OPC drum.  A soft, clean, dry, lint-free, cloth can be used to gently wipe the drum.  Do NOT use moisture of any kind.

Not Fitting

Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model.  Make sure the pull tape seal has been removed from the side of the cartridge.  Check to make sure the cartridge is being installed in the correct directional orientation.  Look inside the printer for any debris which may be interfering with the cartridge install.  Check the cartridge itself for physical damage.
