THESE CARTRIDGES DO NOT HAVE THE OPC DRUM UNIT INTEGRATED.  THERE IS A SEPERATE DRUM UNIT WHICH IS A REPLACEABLE MAINTENANCE ITEM.

The X463X11G is the extra high yield version of the X463H11G high yield toner cartridge.  The cartridges are physically the same however the X463X11G has more toner powder inside.

Not Recognizing

 

Verify you have the correct drum unit for your specific model printer.

 

There is a smart chip located on the bottom of the cartridge.  Check the gold contacts on the chip for damage or debris.  A clean, dry, lint-free cloth can be used to gently clean the contacts.

Make sure that the cartridge is installed correctly and fully inserted into the printer.  The drum unit should stay in the printer and the cartridge is able to removed and reinstalled without having to remove the drum.

 

To remove and install the toner cartridge into the Lexmark X46x Series printers do the following;

–          Press the door release button and lower the front door.

 

–          Press the release button on the base of the drum unit.  Grasp the handle on the toner cartridge.  Pull up and out to remove the toner cartridge.  The drum unit will remain in the printer.

 

–          Install the new toner cartridge by aligning the white rollers on the toner cartridge with the white arrows on the tracks of the drum unit and push the toner cartridge in as far as it will go.  The cartridge will click into place when correctly installed.

 

–          Close the front door.  Make sure the front door is securely shut.

 

Print Quality Issues

 

There is a piece of white paper held on by yellow tape that wraps around the front of the cartridge that will need to be removed prior to cartridge installation.

Holding the cartridge by its ends, shake the cartridge in all directions to distribute the toner.

 

If the toner is smearing off the paper or isn’t adhering properly, make sure the paper settings on the printer match the paper type being used.  Thicker paper, such as labels or bonded paper, require a different paper setting to allow more heating while printing to ensure the toner melts properly to the paper.  Trying to print on thicker paper while under that standard paper setting will cause the toner not to get enough heat to melt properly.

 

Almost all ghost imaging, streaking, lines, and duplicating image defects will be a result of a problem with the drum unit.  The drum unit is a maintenance item that will need to be changed out after around 4-6 toner changes.  We currently do not carry a replacement drum unit for this printer.

 

Not Fitting

 

If the the cartridge is not fitting or is too small then you may have removed the old toner still attached to the drum unit.  The drum unit is separate and will be re-used with the new cartridge.  Check to make sure you removed the old toner from the drum unit and are installing the new toner into the old drum.  The toner cartridge will fit loosely inside the drum unit.  Protrusions on the back of the printer cover will move the cartridge into the correct position.

Leaking

 

This toner does not have any pull seal tabs and as a result a little toner dust on the cartridge is normal.  The foam that protects the roller during shipping helps collect any loose toner dust.  However, vibrations during shipping may cause the roller to rotate a little and allow a little toner powder to leak.  This is normal.  You can clean excess toner dust off the cartridge by gently wiping the cartridge with a clean, dry, lint-free cloth or gently blowing on it.  Be careful with compressed air as this may blow too powerfully and blow toner powder out of the cartridge.
