THIS TONER CARTRIDGE DOES NOT HAVE INTEGRATED DRUM UNIT. THE DRUM IS A SEPARATE UNIT FROM THE TONER CARTRIDGE.
This is a compatible cartridge so there will be differences from the OEM cartridge. These differences will not affect the function of the cartridge.
Not Recognizing
Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model.
There is a smart chip located on the end of the cartridge. Check the smart chip for damage or debris. A clean, soft, lint-free cloth can be used to gently clean the two gold contacts.
Make sure the cartridge is fully locked in the printer and that it is fully inserted.
To install the cartridge in an Okidata B430D do the following;
NOTE: The procedure is similar for other Okidata printers that use this cartridge, for specific instructions on a particular printer model please review the User’s Guide for that printer available on Okidata’s website.
– Press the top cover release button and open the printer’s top cover fully.
– Pull the colored lever (1) on the right side of the toner cartridge towards the front of the printer to close the cartridge then remove the toner cartridge (2).
– Holding the new cartridge by its top center with the colored lever to the right (5), lower it into the printer over the image drumunit from which the old cartridge was removed. Insert the left end of the cartridge into the image drum unit first. Align it under the tabs (6), and push it against the shiny pins in the drum unit. Then lower the right end of the cartridge down into the image drum unit (7).
– Pressing gently down on the cartridge to ensure that it is firmly seated, push the colored lever towards the rear of the printer (8). Push the lever all the way forward until the pointers on the drum and the toner are aligned (8a). This will lock the cartridge into place and release toner into the image drum unit.
– IMPORTANT: Gently wipe the LED array surface (9) with a soft, lint-free, dry, cloth. Failure to complete this step may result in poor print quality.
– Close the top cover and press it down to latch it closed.
Print Quality Issues
There is a white piece of plastic tape that covers the toner shutters on the cartridge which must be removed prior to installation.
Try rocking the cartridge back and forth a few times to redistribute the toner powder inside the cartridge.
Verify the cartridge is locked into the drum unit properly. Moving the lock lever to the back of the printer opens the toner shutters on the bottom of the cartridge which drops the toner into the drum unit.
Ghosting, lines, streaking, and repeating defects will be a drum related issue. The drum unit is separate from the toner cartridge and is a replaceable, maintenance item. After a certain period of usage the drum will need replacing.
Not Fitting
Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model. Verify you are installing the toner cartridge into the pre-existing drum unit. If the cartridge appears too small then you are not installing the toner cartridge into the drum unit.
Make sure that the cartridge is locked properly in the drum unit. Verify that the white protective tape has been removed from the cartridge.
