This is a stand-alone drum unit.  The toner cartridge is a separate, replaceable item.

Not Recognizing

Verify they have the correct drum unit for their specific model printer.

There is no smart chip on the drum.  Instead, when installed there is a gear on the drum unit called the “flag gear” that trips an actuator inside the printer and resets the page count.  Once the printer counts a certain amount of pages, it will give the message to replace the drum.

Make sure the drum unit is installed correctly and fully inserted into the printer.

Print Quality Issues

There is a protective paper held on by tape that must be removed prior to installation.

Visually inspect the OPC drum for any damage or debris.  Do NOT touch the OPC drum.  You can use a clean, dry, soft, lint-free cloth to gently wipe the drum.  Do NOT use moisture of any kind.

There is no protective drum shutter to protect the OPC drum so caution must be taken in handling this cartridge to prevent damage to the drum.  The OPC drum can easily be scratched or nicked and you also do not want to get any fingerprint oil on the drum as this may damage it.

Ghost imaging, bad streaks, lines, and repeating images are usually signs of a bad drum and a replacement should be sent.  Light specks on the page may be a sign of the printer itself being dirty and the customer can try cleaning out their printer with air.
