THIS IS A TONER THAT HAS THE IMAGING DRUM BUILT INTO THE CARTRIDGE ITSELF AND IS REPLACED AS ONE WHOLE UNIT. THERE IS NO SEPARATE DRUM.
There is a smart card included with this cartridge which is necessary for the toner cartridge replacement.
Not Recognizing
Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model.
This cartridge uses a separate smart card that is used to inform the printer that a new cartridge has been installed. If the smart card was not used during installation or the card was used incorrectly then this will cause the cartridge not to recognize or to read as low/empty.
To install this toner with the smart card into the Okidata MB260, MB280, and MB290 printers do the following;
– Insert the smart card provided with our toner cartridge into the printer as shown in the picture below.
– A message asking to change the toner will be appear. Press OK to change the toner.
– The printer’s display will then give a message to open the front cover and replace the toner cartridge.
– Push on the left and right sides of the cover and pull it towards you. Raise and remove the toner cartridge from the machine.
– Take the new toner cartridge and insert it into the printer making sure that it fully seats inside the printer.
– Close the cover. A message will appear asking if you have changed the toner. Press OK to select yes.
– A wait message will appear as the printer reads the smart card.
– Once the smart card is read and accepted the printer will state that there’s a new toner and to remove the smart card.
If the printer keeps giving the message the card is unknown and to remove card it may be a defective card. Do NOT reship the entire toner cartridge for a defective card issue. Patrick Devane has extra smart cards that we can mail out to replace defective cards. Please see Patrick if you have a smart card issue to obtain a replacement smart card to mail to the customer. Be sure to give Patrick the correct toner cartridge number you need the smart card for.
Print Quality Issues
There is a piece of paper held on by tape that protects the OPC drum which must be removed prior to installation.
Gently shake the toner cartridge from side to side 5-6 times to redistribute the toner.
If the toner is smearing off the paper or isn’t adhering properly, make sure the paper settings on the printer match the paper type being used. Thicker paper, such as labels or bonded paper, require a different paper setting to allow more heating while printing to ensure the toner melts properly to the paper. Trying to print on thicker paper while under that standard paper setting will cause the toner not to get enough heat to melt properly.
The OPC drum is located on the bottom of the cartridge. Visually check for scratches or debris on the drum. Do not touch the OPC drum. If need be, clean the OPC drum using a dry, soft, lint-free cloth. Do not use moisture of any kind. There is no protective drum shutter on this cartridge to protect the OPC drum so caution must be taken in handling this cartridge to prevent damage to the drum. Be careful with setting the cartridge down on a surface because being that the OPC drum is located on the bottom of the cartridge it can easily be scratched or nicked.
Leaking
This toner does not have any pull seal tabs and as a result a little toner dust on the cartridge is normal. The protective paper helps collect any loose toner dust. However, vibrations during shipping may cause the roller to rotate a little and allow a little toner powder to leak. This is normal. You can clean excess toner dust off the cartridge by gently wiping the cartridge with a clean, dry, lint-free cloth or gently blowing on it. Be careful with compressed air as this may blow too powerfully and blow toner powder out of the cartridge. Do NOT use moisture of any kind.
