THESE TONER CARTRIDGES DO NOT HAVE THE OPC DRUM INTEGRATED. THE DRUM UNIT IS A SEPARATE, REPLACEABLE, MAINTENANCE ITEM.
These are compatible cartridges so their appearance may differ greatly from the OEM. They will still work and their appearance differences will have no effect on their performance.
Not Recognizing
Verify you have the correct cartridges for your specific model printer.
It is important to make sure the cartridge is installed correctly and fully locked into place. To remove and install the toner cartridges into an Okidata C3400 printer do the following;
– Press the cover release and open the printer’s top cover fully.
– Be sure to note the color orientation inside the printer. It is important that the correct color is being replaced into the correct color slot.
– Pull the colored toner release lever on the cartridge to be replaced fully towards the front of the printer.
– Lift the right-hand end of the cartridge and then draw the cartridge to the right to release the left-hand end. The withdraw the toner cartridge from the printer.
– Holding the new cartridge by its top center with the colored lever to the right, lower it into the printer over the image drum unit from which the old cartridge was removed.
– Insert the left end of the cartridge into the top of the image drum unit first, pushing it against the spring on the drum unit, then lower the right end of the cartridge onto the image drum unit.
– Pressing gently down on the cartridge to ensure that it is firmly seated, push the colored lever towards the rear of the printer. This will lock the cartridge into place and release the toner powder into the drum unit. Be sure that the cartridge is fully in the locked position.
– With the top cover open, gently wipe the LED head surfaces on the bottom of the top covering using a soft lint-free cloth. This is important to do to prevent print quality issues.
– Finally, close the top cover and press down firmly so that the cover latches closed.
Print Quality Issues
There’s a piece of protective tape on the cartridge which must be removed prior to installation. If this is not fully removed the toner powder will not be able to exit the cartridge.
Gently shake the cartridge from end to end several times to loosen and re-distribute the toner powder inside the cartridge.
Verify that the cartridge is fully locked inside the printer. When the cartridge is locked this opens the toner shutters on the cartridge which releases the toner powder into the drum unit. If the cartridge is not fully locked then the toner powder will not release properly from the cartridge.
Streaking, lines, ghost imaging, and repeating image defects are drum related issues. The drum unit is a separate, replaceable, maintenance item. After a certain period of usage the drum unit will need to be replaced.
Not Fitting
Make sure that you are installing the toner cartridge into the drum unit. Verify that the drum unit has not been removed from the printer. If the cartridge appears too small then you may not be installing it into the drum unit.
Make sure the correct color cartridge is being installed into the correct color slot in the drum unit.
Verify that the cartridge lock lever in the printer is unlocked. It should be pushed towards the front of the printer. If the cartridge lock lever is in the locked position then the cartridge will not be able to fit into the slot on the drum.
