THIS TONER CARTRIDGE DOES NOT HAVE AN INTEGRATED DRUM UNIT.  THE DRUM IS A SEPARATE UNIT FROM THE TONER CARTRIDGE.

This toner cartridge comes with a new waste toner box that must be replaced at the same time as the toner cartridge. It also comes with an extra waste toner box in case the box needs to be replaced before the next toner change.

Not Recognizing

Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model.

There is no smart chip on this cartridge.  The printer detects the presence of toner powder inside the printer and when it starts to get low a message will show to Add Toner.

Make sure the cartridge is properly installed and fully inserted.  When the toner cartridge is installed into the printer a small shutter will be opened on the cartridge which dumps the toner powder into the printer.

To remove and install both the toner cartridge and the waste toner box in the Kyocera Mita 3050/4050/5050 printers do the following;

–          Open the front cover.

–          Push up the toner container stopper and slowly pull out the used toner cartridge until its handle is visible.

–          Keep the stopper up, hold the toner container handle and take it out slowly.  Don’t quickly yank the toner cartridge out or toner leakage may occur.

–          Insert the new toner container slowly while holding its handle.

–          Using both hands, push in the toner container until it is locked.

–          Remove the waste toner box.

–          Put the used waste toner box in the supplied plastic bag that we provide with our compatible cartridge for disposal.

–          Install a new waste toner box.

NOTE:  The next steps are crucial to ensure optimal print quality.  Skipping these steps may cause print quality issues later in usage.

–          Remove the cleaning brush (blue colored).

–          Pull up and open the left cover of the printer.

–          Clean dirt from the separator by moving the brush from side to side along the separator as pictured below.

–          Clean dirt from the transfer roller by moving the brush from side to side along the roller while rotating the roller by turning the gear at the left end of the roller as pictured below.

–          Return the cleaning brush back to its holder in the printer and close the left side cover of the printer by pushing on the area marked Push.

–          Open the Multi Purpose Tray and remove the two filters (labeled as F1 and F2 in the picture below).

–          Remove dust from the filters using a vacuum cleaner or a dry cloth.

–          Put the filters back and close the Multi Purpose Tray.

–          The printer now should be ready for printing.

Print Quality Issues

Make sure the cleaning steps outlined above have been completed.  These cleanings can fix streaking, spotting, and line issues.

The drum unit is separate from the toner cartridge.  The drum shouldn’t need to be replaced very often in this particular printer series.  The estimated page yield for the drum unit and fuser unit in this printer is around 400,000 pages at 5%.  However, the drum is replaceable and will eventually need replacing.  Usually after around 12 toner cartridges (toner cartridge page yield is around 34,000 at 5%).

If the pages are coming out light, try removing the toner cartridge and tapping on the top of the cartridge.  Then, shake the toner cartridge horizontally to redistribute the toner evenly.

Try cleaning the inside of the printer out with compressed air and the toner cartridge out of the printer.  Then, try printing 20-30 pages to see if the print quality issue returns.

Not Fitting

Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model.  Check to make sure the cartridge is being installed in the correct direction.  Check inside the printer for any obstructions that may be stopping the cartridge from fitting correctly.  Check the cartridge itself for physical damage.
