THIS IS A TONER THAT HAS THE OPC DRUM BUILT INTO THE CARTRIDGE ITSELF AND IS REPLACED AS ONE WHOLE UNIT. THERE IS NO SEPARATE DRUM UNIT.
Not Recognizing
Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model.
There is a smart chip located on the front of the cartridge. Check the chip for damage or debris. A clean, dry, lint-free cloth can be used to gently wipe the gold contacts.
Check to make sure the cartridge is installed correctly and fully inserted into the printer. There are tabs on each side of the print cartridge that align with slots on each side of the print cartridge cradle inside the printer. Slide the print cartridge into the printer until it snaps into place.
To remove and install the toner cartridge in a Lexmark T640 printer do the following;
– Push the outside release hatch, and lower the multipurpose feeder.
– Push the inside release latch, and open the top front cover.
– Grasp the print cartridge by the handle. Lift the print cartridge up and out.
– While the cartridge is out, take this opportunity to gently clean the inside for the best print quality results. Using a clean, lint-free cloth, gently clean the shaded areas by wiping toward the front of the printer. WARNING: Do not touch the transfer roller and the rear portion of the inside of the printer is hot due to the fuser.
– Hold the new print cartridge by the handle and insert it into the printer. Align the tabs (F) on each side of the print cartridge with the slots (G) on each side of the print cartridge cradle.
– Slide the print cartridge into the printer until it snaps into place.
– Close the upper front door and close the multipurpose feeder door.
Print Quality Issues
There is a red plastic protective piece that must be removed prior to installation. There is also a piece of blue plastic covering the OPC drum on the bottom which must be removed. Be careful not to touch the OPC drum and be careful setting the cartridge down on a surface as the OPC drum can be easily nicked or damaged.
Try gently rocking the cartridge a few times to evenly re-distribute the toner powder inside the cartridge.
To help determine print quality issues the Lexmark T640 printer is able to print Print Quality Test Pages. To print these pages do the following;
– Power off the printer.
– Press and hold the ► button and the √ button. Continue to hold them down as you power the printer back on until you see either a stopwatch symbol or a set of new menu options display on the printer screen then release the buttons. The printer should now be in the CONFIG MENU.
– Press the ▼ button until the check on the left appears next to Prt Quality Pgs.
– Press the √ button once.
– The printer will now print the print quality pages. Look at the printed pages to see what print defect is occurring.
The OPC drum is located on the bottom of the cartridge. Be careful with placing the cartridge down on a surface as the OPC drum is easily nicked, dented, or damaged. Visually inspect the OPC drum for damage or debris. Do NOT touch the OPC drum. A soft, lint-free, dry, clean cloth can be used to gently clean the drum. Do NOT use moisture of any kind.
If the toner is smearing off the paper or isn’t adhering properly, make sure the paper settings on the printer match the paper type being used. Thicker paper, such as labels or bonded paper, require a different paper setting to allow more heating while printing to ensure the toner melts properly to the paper. Trying to print on thicker paper while under that standard paper setting will cause the toner not to get enough heat to melt properly.
Compressed air can be used to clean inside the printer with the toner cartridge removed. Excess toner powder build up inside the printer can cause dots, excess loose toner on the page, or noises and blowing compressed in the printer can help clear out the excess toner dust. Do NOT use moisture of any kind.
Not Fitting
Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model. Check to make sure all the seals have been removed from the cartridge. Check inside the printer to see if there’s any debris that may be causing the cartridge not to fit. Make sure the cartridge is being installed into the guides built into the inside of the printer.
