INK TANK – These are ink tanks and do not have the print heads integrated. The print heads are separate.
The BCI-15BK black is pigment based whereas the BCI-15C and BCI-16C tri-colors are dye based ink.
Some Canon printers will use the BCI-15BK with the BCI-15C while other printers may use the BCI-16C with the BCI-15BK instead. Double check the printer model with our website to verify the correct color cartridge that printer uses.
Not Recognizing
Verify you have the correct cartridges for your specific model printer.
These do not have a smart chip. Check to make sure the cartridge is fully inserted into the printer and that the correct cartridge is being installed into the correct slot. These printers have a counter that counts the pages printed and gives a low ink tank message after a certain amount of pages. This counter must be MANUALLY reset when a new tank is installed.
Below are instructions on installing the cartridges into an iP90 printer, other Canon printers that use these cartridges are similar. For specific instructions on a specific printer model the User’s Guide is available on Canon’s website.
– Open the print head cover. The print head holder moves to the center.
– Remove the old ink tank by pushing the tab then lifting the ink tank out from its slot. Do not touch the Lock Lever; remove only the ink tank.
– Insert the new tank with it slightly slanted. Push down on the ink tank until it clicks into place.
– Close the print head cover. The print head holder will move to the right
IMPORTANT: The ink counter must be reset after a new tank is installed. After installing a new tank (or removing and reinstalling a tank) at the start of the next print job the printer will pop up a window on the computer that will ask if a new ink tank has been installed. You will want to select Yes.
A second window will appear that will allow you to select one or both of the ink tanks as being new. Check the boxes on the tank(s) that have been replaced and press OK.
Print Quality Issues
There are orange clips on the cartridges which must be removed prior to installation.
For any print quality issues you will want to run a print head cleaning. Canon offers a standard cleaning or a deep cycle cleaning if the standard doesn’t resolve the issue. To perform the print head cleaning;
– In Windows XP, click Start, select Settings, and then Printers. Click the Canon printer icon. Open the File menu and select Printing Preferences. A window will open where you will select Print Head cleaning.
You can also take a dry paper towel and dab the foam ink pads on the bottom of the cartridge to see if the ink is flowing out of the cartridge properly. While the cartridges are out you may also try gently tapping them on a hard surface.
Not Fitting
Verify you have the correct cartridges for your specific printer model.
Make sure the orange protective clip has been removed from the ink tank.
Check if they are installing the correct cartridge into the correct slot in the printer. The black cartridge is narrower than the color cartridge.
