THESE CARTRIDGES DO NOT HAVE THE OPC DRUM UNIT INTEGRATED. THERE IS AN INDIVIDUAL DRUM UNIT FOR EACH COLOR WHICH IS A REPLACEABLE MAINTENANCE ITEM.
Not Recognizing
Verify you have the correct drum unit for your specific model printer.
There is no smart chip on the cartridges. Instead, when installed there is a gear on the cartridge called the “flag gear” that trips an actuator inside the printer and resets the page count. Once the printer counts a certain amount of pages, it will give the message to replace the cartridge.
You can reset the toner life for some of the printers. For example, for the HL3070CW do the following;
- Open the top cover
- Press the Cancel and Secure Print buttons together to bring up the toner menu
- Use the + and – buttons to select the toner cartridge to reset, and press OK (twice). Each color (CMYK) has two options, one each for standard and high capacity cartridges.
- When finished, closed the top cover.
Check to make sure the cartridges are installed correctly and are fully inserted into the printers. Each color has its own individual drum unit that must be separated from the toner cartridge. The customer will re-use this drum unit.
If the customer is saying the cartridge is not fitting or is too small then they probably are not installing the cartridge into the separate drum unit. Verify they have separated their old drum unit from their old toner cartridge and are re-using the drum unit with the new toner.
Print Quality Issues
There’s a plastic cover on the front of the cartridge that must be removed prior to installation.
Holding the cartridge by its ends, gently rock the cartridge left to right a few times to re-distribute the toner powder inside the cartridge.
The cartridges use small rubber rollers to distribute toner powder onto the OPC drum roller in the drum unit that physically puts the images to paper. You can check the rubber rollers on the cartridges themselves for any cracks or defects. Most print problems such as streaking, lines, ghosting, etc., will be an issue with the drum unit which is a separate replaceable item. We do not carry the replacement drums.
Each of the drum units have primary corona wires that can be cleaned by sliding the green tab, found on the drum unit, from to left to right and right to left several times.
