THIS IS A TONER THAT HAS THE OPC DRUM BUILT INTO THE CARTRIDGE ITSELF AND IS REPLACED AS ONE WHOLE UNIT.  THERE IS NO SEPARATE DRUM UNIT.

Not Recognizing

These cartridges do not have chips.  They do not track the page count or give a courtesy warning when the toner is low.  Instead, the Canon User’s Guide recommends replacing the toner when the prints are extremely light or there are white lines in the print and gently rocking the toner doesn’t help.

Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific model printer.

Check to make sure the cartridge is correctly installed and firmly in place.

Print Quality Issues

There is a pull tape seal on the side of the cartridge that must be removed prior to install.  It is important that this seal tape is fully removed from the toner cartridge.

You can gently rock the toner cartridge from left to right to help redistribute the toner powder inside the cartridge.

The OPC drum is located on the back of the toner cartridge.  To view it you will need to lift the spring loaded plastic protective cover.  Be sure not to touch the OPC drum.  Visually check for any scratches or debris.  You can use a soft lint-free cloth to gently clean the OPC drum.
