THIS IS A TONER THAT HAS THE OPC DRUM BUILT INTO THE CARTRIDGE ITSELF AND IS REPLACED AS ONE WHOLE UNIT.  THERE IS NO SEPARATE DRUM UNIT.

Not Recognizing

Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model.

Ensure that the cartridge is properly installed into the printer and fully inserted.

This cartridge has no smart chip or microchip.  It will give no courtesy warnings when the toner is low, instead HP recommends replacing the cartridge when prints are light and shaking doesn’t help.

Print Quality Issues

There is a pull tape seal on the side of the cartridge that must be removed prior to installation.  It is important that this pull tape seal is completely removed.

Holding the cartridge by its ends, gently rock the cartridge left to right a few times to evenly distribute the toner powder inside of the cartridge.

The OPC drum is located on the bottom of the cartridge covered by a spring loaded protective plastic cover.  Lift the protective cover to view the OPC drum.  Do not touch the drum.  Visually inspect the drum for damages or debris.  A clean, dry, lint-free, cloth can be used to gently wipe the OPC drum.  Do not use moisture of any kind.

If they are experiencing toner specks or dots on the printouts, HP has a built in cleaning feature that help resolve this.  To perform the cleaning;

1 Make sure that the printer is idle and the Ready light is on.

2 Load blank standard copy paper in the input tray.

3 On the printer control panel, press and hold the Go button until all three lights come on

(about 10 seconds). When all three lights come on, release the Go button.

Note:  The cleaning process takes approximately 2 minutes. The cleaning page will stop periodically during the cleaning process. Do not turn the printer off until the cleaning process has finished. You might need to repeat the cleaning process several times to thoroughly clean the printer.
