INK TANK – These don’t have a print head attached so DO NOT perform the paper towel method.
There are 6 colors and 1 cleaning cartridge in this series. Some printers have the ability to run two of each color.
These are compatible cartridges so there will be some differences between these and the OEMs, these differences will NOT affect the function.
These are large ink tanks, with large Mylar bags inside the casing holding the ink. These cartridges install into a professional wide format printer used to create billboards and posters. For reference below is a picture of the Roland XJ740 printer, the other printers that use these cartridges look similar with minor differences depending on the options and abilities of the printer but all are wide format.
Not Recognizing
Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific model printer.
Make sure the cartridge is installed correctly and fully inserted. Make sure that you are installing the right color into the right slot and the cartridge is in the correct directional orientation.
There is a smart chip on the cartridge located on the front side of the cartridge. Check to see if there is any dirt or damage on the gold contact points. You can use a dry Q-tip to gently wipe the chip contacts. Do not touch the chip with your fingers, as finger print oil can cause false readings.
You can try resetting the machine. To do this; remove the cartridges from the printer, power the printer off, unplug the power cord for 10-15 seconds, re-insert the power cord, turn the printer on, and re-insert the cartridges.
To install the cartridges into a Roland XJ-740 printer do the following;
– The cartridges are located on the back of the wide format printer with no cover covering them.
– Check the printer screen to see which cartridge(s) need replacing. The number and color will flash.
– Check with the cartridges to see which cartridge the system is referring to. Remove that cartridge by gently pulling out from the printer.
– Be sure that you have the correct color cartridge for the cartridge you are replacing and are installing into the correct color slot.
– Insert the cartridge slowing and firmly. Push the cartridge in as far as it will go.
Print Quality Issues
There’s a round foil sticker covering the nozzle at the end of the cartridge. Do NOT remove this round foil sticker, the printer will puncture this during the charging cycle.
Try shaking the cartridge or gently tapping it on a hard surface. Take caution if the cartridge has already been open as ink may leak out of the punctured nozzle. A paper towel can be used to cover the nozzle before attempting to shake or tap to prevent ink leakage.
It is recommended to a perform a printing test to check for problem such as dot drop-out before performing a cleaning so that you can better assess which cleaning will be most effective. To print a printing test, press and hold down the Test Print button for one second.
Look at the printed test pattern. This will show what print quality issue is occurring and with which group it is occurring within (A,B, or C).
To perform a cleaning, press the Cleaning button;
– Press the ► button to select Normal CL.
– Use the ◄ and ► keys to choose the group of heads that is NOT to be cleaned based on the printing test you performed earlier.
– Use the ▲ and ▼ keys to get rid of the groups of heads NOT to be cleaned once they are selected.
– Press the ENTER key to begin cleaning. When cleaning finishes the screen returns back to the selection screen.
If normal cleaning does not resolve the issue you can select a more aggressive Medium Cleaning or a Powerful Cleaning on the first step. Running the more aggressive cleanings use a tremendous amount of ink and should be done sparingly.
If the issue is not resolved with any of the cleanings then there is a separately purchased cleaning kit available that is used to manually clean the print heads. This cleaning kit is used as part of the periodic maintenance of the printer, so eventually the cleaning kit will need to be used whether or not you are using OEM ink.
Not Fitting
Verify you have the correct cartridges for your specific printer model. Make sure the correct color cartridge is installed into the correct color slot. Check inside the printer for any obstructions. Check the cartridge itself for physical damage. Check the cartridge orientation to make sure it is being inserted in the correct direction.
