THESE TONER CARTRIDGES DOE NOT HAVE AN INTEGRATED DRUM UNIT.  THE DRUM IS A SEPARATE UNIT FROM THE TONER CARTRIDGES.

NOTE:  The C544X2KG, C544X2CG, C544X2MG, C544X2YG are extra high yield cartridges and ONLY work in the C544 Series printers, they will NOT work in the C540 Series printers.

There are four colors in this series; Black, Yellow, Magenta, and Yellow.

These are remanufactured cartridges.  The black cartridge is physically larger than the color cartridges.

Not Recognizing

Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model.

These cartridges use a smart chip located on the end of the cartridge.  Check the chip for damage or debris.  A lint-free cloth can be used to gently wipe the gold contacts.

To remove and install the toner cartridge into a Lexmark C540 Series printer do the following;

–          Open the top door by sliding the button forward.

–          Remove the color toner cartridge you are replacing by lifting the handle, and then gently pulling it away from the imaging kit.

–          Make sure you have the correct color cartridge for the color you are replacing.  Align the new toner cartridge, and then press down until it clicks into place.

–          Close the top door.

Print Quality Issues

There are print quality pages that can be printed from the printer to help isolate print quality issues.  To print these print quality pages, do the following;

–          Turn the printer off.

–          From the printer control panel, press and hold the check mark button and the ► button while turning the printer on.

–          Release both buttons when the clock animation appears.  The printer performs its power-on sequence, and then Config Menu appears.

–          Press the ◄ or ► buttons until PRT QUALITY PGS appears, and the press the check mark button.  The pages are formatted, PRINTING QUALITY TEST PAGES appears, and then the pages print.  The message remains on the display until all the pages print.

–          After the print quality test pages print press the ◄ or ► buttons until EXIT CONFIG MENU appears, and then press the check mark button.

If you are getting dark lines in the print then the imaging kit of the printer may be defective and need replacing.

If there is a gray background then you may need to adjust the Toner Darkness setting on the printer.  This is done through the control panel under the Quality menu option.

If you are getting light colored lines, white lines, or incorrectly colored lines you may need to shake the color toner cartridge in which the print quality issue is occuring.  If this does not resolve the issue then the imaging kit may be defective.  There is a black imaging kit and a color imaging kit.

If you are receiving print irregularities then the paper may have absorbed too much moisture due to high humidity.  Replace the paper with paper from a fresh pack.  The paper settings on the printer may also not be set to the correct type.  Make sure the paper settings on the printer match the paper you are using.  This is done through the Paper menu on the control panel.

Try removing the color toner cartridge you are having an issue with from the printer and roll it from side to side several times to redistribute the toner.  Sometimes the toner can become compacted to one side.

Ghosting, lines, streaking, and repeating defects will be a drum related issue.  The drum unit is separate from the toner cartridges.  There are two drum units; one for black and one for all of the colors.

There is a waste toner bottle, sold separately, that will need to be eventually replaced as part of the routine maintenance of the printer.  If you receive an error or warning message about waste toner, this is NOT related to toner cartridge replacement.  Please view the User’s Guide for more information on replacing the waste toner bottle.

If the toner is not adhering to the page and flakes off, especially when printing on paper thicker than standard plain copy paper (IE label paper, bonded paper, etc), this can be caused by the fuser in the printer or more commonly, the incorrect paper setting on the printer.  When printing on any paper outside of standard plain paper, you will need to manually switch the paper setting through the control panel on the printer itself.  The paper setting is usually found through the menu option Settings and then Paper on the printer.  Go to Paper Type or Paper Setting and make sure the correct paper type is selected for the paper you are printing to.  Changing the paper setting ensures the fuser gets hot enough to transfer the heat through the thick paper and properly melt the toner.  If you are printing to standard paper and are experiencing toner adhesion problems, this can still be resolved by selecting a thicker paper type setting on the printer.  It could be a case of too much moisture in the paper or toner which requires a hotter fuser or longer fuser contact time to properly melt the toner.

Not Fitting

Verify you have the correct cartridges for your specific printer model.  Make sure you have the correct color cartridge installed into the correct color slot.  Check inside the printer for any obstructions.  Check the cartridge itself for physical damage.  Try installing the cartridge in a different directional orientation.
