THIS IS A TONER THAT HAS THE IMAGING DRUM BUILT INTO THE CARTRIDGE ITSELF AND IS REPLACED AS ONE WHOLE UNIT. THERE IS NO SEPARATE DRUM.
Not Recognizing
Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model.
This cartridge uses a toner sensor to determine when the toner is low. The sensor is located on the printer frame, under and against the toner cartridge. The sensor is magnetically sensitive and it monitors the level of unused toner inside the cartridge. Once the toner gives off a low enough signal the printer will give an 88 TONER LOW error message. Shaking the toner cartridge may resolve this error message, as it helps redistribute the toner inside the cartridge.
There is a smart chip connector on the side of the cartridge that the printer uses to recognize the cartridge. Check to make sure this connector is not damaged and that there is no dirt or debris present which may be causing a poor connection.
Make sure the cartridge is properly installed and fully inserted into the printer.
To remove and install the cartridge into a IBM/Ricoh Infoprint 1145 printer do the following;
– Push up on the latch to release the duplex unit door.
– Gently lower the door to the open position.
– Pull up on the handle to open the printer side door. Gently lower the door to the open position.
– Using the handholds located on each side, pull open the printer front door.
– Pull up on the latch to release and slide the print cartridge out until you see the handle.
– Use the handle to pull the print cartridge straight out.
– Use the handle to hold the new print cartridge and slide the print cartridge halfway in.
– Drop the handle back into place.
– Push the print cartridge into the printer until the cartridge clicks into place.
– Pull out the seal tape from the cartridge while it is installed in the printer. It is important that the seal tape is fully removed from the cartridge. If the printer is printing blank pages or printed 2-3 pages and is now printing blank then the seal tape was not removed or may have broken off inside the cartridge while being removed.
– Close the printer side door.
– Close the duplex unit door.
Print Quality Issues
There is a replaceable maintenance kit that contains a new fuser, transfer roller, and feedrolls. This maintenance kit needs to be replaced after around 300,000 prints have been printed. After this period print quality can greatly reduce.
Hold the toner cartridge horizontally and gently shake it 5 to 6 times to evenly distribute the toner inside.
Be sure that the pull tape seal on the cartridge has been pulled out. This should done while the cartridge is installed in the printer to lessen the chance of any toner powder leakage.
If there is a piece of protective paper on the cartridge, be sure that this is removed prior to installation.
The OPC drum is located on the front of the cartridge covered by a spring loaded plastic shutter. Lift the shutter up to view the drum. Do NOT touch the OPC drum. You can use a clean, dry, lint-free cloth to gently clean the drum. Do NOT use moisture of any kind.
Print irregularities, such as missing portions of print, can be caused by moisture absorbed into the paper due to high humidity, using incorrect paper, the transfer roller being worn, or the fuser being worn or defective. None of these items are related to the toner cartridge but are part of the maintenance kit.
If you receiving streaked vertical lines on the page this is caused by the toner being smeared before fusing to the paper. The paper being used may be too stiff for the paper tray you are using. Try using a different paper tray.
Issues such as the print being too light, too dark, or having a grey background can sometimes be resolved by adjusting the Toner Darkness settings from the printer driver. The Toner Darkness settings can be accessed through the printer display under the Quality Menu. The values range from 1-10.
Not Fitting
Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model. Make sure the cartridge is being installed in the correct orientation. Check inside the printer for any obstructions that may be causing the cartridge not to fit. Check the cartridge itself for physical damage.
