THESE TONER CARTRIDGES DO NOT HAVE AN INTEGRATED DRUM UNIT.  THE DRUM IS A SEPARATE UNIT FROM THE TONER CARTRIDGES.

There are four colors in this series; Black, Yellow, Magenta, and Yellow.

The black cartridge is physically larger than the color cartridges.

Not Recognizing

Verify they have the correct cartridge for their specific printer model.

These cartridges use a smart chip located on the end of the cartridge.  Check the chip for damage or debris.  A lint-free cloth can be used to gently wipe the gold contacts.

To remove and install the toner cartridge into a Xerox Phaser 7800 printer do the following;

–          Open the front cover.

–          Grab the handle of the color toner cartridge being replaced and pull the cartridge from the printer.  Make sure to take note of the different locations for the colors.

–          Make sure you have the correct color cartridge for the color being replaced.  Insert the color cartridge into the correct color slot in the printer.

–          Push the cartridge until it is firmly seated in place.

–          Close the front cover.

Print Quality Issues

There may be a piece of black tape that is covering the toner shutter.  Make sure this tape is not present on the cartridge or it may cause the shutter not to open properly.

Hold the toner cartridge and shake it 5 or 6 times.

Try to determine if the print quality issue is occurring with one color in particular or if it’s occurring across all the print.  This will help pinpoint if the problem is with one toner cartridge or if it’s a larger issue.

If there are smears, smudges, and streaks occurring throughout the page in all colors the fuser may need to be cleaned.  There is a cleaning function on the printer for cleaning the fuser.  To run this cleaning do the following;

–          On the printer’s control panel touch Printer.

–          Touch Tools and touch Troubleshooting.

–          Touch Resolve Problems then touch Smears, Smudges, and Streaks.

–          Touch Start Cleaning to begin the cleaning.  Several blank pages feed through the printer to remove toner accumulated on the fuser.

If there are repeating spots or lines that appear at regular intervals there is a page that can be printed on the printer to help identify what component of the printer is causing the issue.  To print this page do the following;

–          On the printer’s control panel touch Printer then touch Tools.

–          Touch Troubleshooting then touch Resolve Problems.

–          Touch Repeating Spots or Lines then touch Print.

–          To identify the part responsible for the repeating spots or lines, follow the instructions on the Repeating Defects page.

–          To correct the problem, replace the printer part identified on the Repeating Defects page.

If you are getting streaks on the page the printhead lenses may be dirty.  The printer is constructed with four printhead lenses.  To clean the lenses do the following;

–          Open the front cover of the printer.

–          Turn the orange lever to the left.

–          Pull the drum cartridge cover down until it clicks into the open position.

–          Each of the four printheads has its own cleaning tool.  Slowly pull the printhead lens cleaner out until the three dots are visible.  The printhead lens cleaner does not detach from the printer.

–          Slowly push the printhead lens cleaner back into the printhead until it stops.  Do this for each of the four printheads.

–          Close the drum cartridge cover.

–          Turn the orange lever to the right to return it to the locked position.

–          Close the printer front cover.

Ghosting, lines, streaking, and repeating defects will be a drum related issue.  The drum unit is separate from the toner cartridges.

Make sure that the cartridge is fully inserted.  When the cartridge is installed, the toner shutter opens on the cartridge to release the toner powder.

Not Fitting

Verify you have the correct cartridges for your specific printer model.  Make sure you have the correct color cartridge installed into the correct color slot.  Check inside the printer for any obstructions.  Check the cartridge itself for physical damage.
