THIS IS A THERMAL FAX FILM ROLL WITH THE CARTRIDGE FRAME.  IT USES A CARBON FILM SHEET AND HEAT TO TRANSFER THE TEXT TO THE PAPER.  AS PRINTING OCCURS THE USED FILM SHEET WILL ROLL TO ONE SIDE OF THE CARTRIDGE.

Not Recognizing

There is no chip used in the film cartridge, there is a “leader” built into the film that will trip a sensor so the machine knows a new roll has been installed.  If you are getting a “Check Film” error then the film was not installed correctly into the machine.  Follow the instructions below.

To remove and replace the film cartridge in a Panasonic KX-FP101 fax machine do the following;

–          Open the cover by pressing the cover open button.  Remove the film cartridge by pulling it up.

–          Wind the gears on the new cartridge so that the film is tight and not slack.

–          The film should not be loose.  Jamming or print quality issues can occur is there is excess slack in the film.

–          Insert the new film cartridge by first placing the front of the cartridge into the unit and then lowering the back of the cartridge into place.  If the cartridge is not fitting, try flipping it around.

–          Close the cover securely by pushing down on the dotted area at both ends.

Print Quality Issues

If dirty patterns or black bands appear on a copied or received document then the thermal head may be dirty.  To clean the thermal head do the following;

–          Disconnect the power cord and the telephone line cord.

–          Open the cover by pressing the cover open button.

–          Clean the thermal head and black bar with a cloth lightly dampened with isopropyl rubbing alcohol, and let it dry thoroughly.

–          Close the cover securely by pushing down on the dotted area at both ends.

–          Connect the power cord and the telephone line cord.

Not Fitting

Verify you have the correct cartridge roll for your specific printer model.  Make sure that the cartridge is being installed in the correct orientation.  It can be easy to accidentally try installing the cartridge upside down, trying flipping the cartridge in a different orientation if it is not fitting.
