THESE TONER CARTRIDGES DO NOT HAVE THE OPC DRUM INTEGRATED INTO THE CARTRIDGE ITSELF.  THERE IS A SEPARATE, REPLACEABLE, DRUM UNIT FOR EACH COLOR.  BE SURE TO SEPARATE THE OLD DRUM UNIT FROM THE OLD TONER CARTRIDGE TO RE-USE IT WITH THE NEW TONER CARTRIDGE.

There are four colors in this series; Black, Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow.

These are compatible cartridges so there will be some differences from the OEM.  These differences will not affect the function.

These are high yield cartridges.

Not Recognizing

Verify they have the correct cartridge for their specific printer model.

This cartridge uses a RF or radio frequency sensor chip. This chip does not make physical contact with the printer but rather sits in a specific position to be picked up by the printer’s sensor. Make sure that the cartridge is properly inserted and locks into place to ensure the chip is in the correct position. If the problem persists it is most likely an issue with the chip on the cartridge.

Make sure that the correct color is being installed into the correct slot in the printer.

To remove and install the cartridges into an Xerox Phaser 7400 Series printer do the following;

–          Open the top cover.

–          Push the colored lock lever to the unlocked position on the color cartridge being replaced.  Remove the cartridge from the printer, be sure not to remove the drum unit with the toner cartridge.  Make sure to take note of the different locations of the colors.

–          IMPORTANT:  Make sure not to remove the drum unit along with the toner cartridge.  If the toner looks like the image below this means the drum unit is still attached.  Remove the drum unit and reinstall it back into the printer.

–          Make sure you have the correct color cartridge for the color being replaced.  Insert the cartridge into the correct color slot and push down firmly.

–          Turn the color lock knob to the locked position.  Make sure the cartridge is fully locked.

–          It is important to clean the LED heads anytime a toner cartridge is changed.  The LED heads are located under the top cover.  Move the LED shutter to the right, and clean the four LED bars using a soft, dry, lint-free cloth.

–          Close the top cover.

Print Quality Issues

As mentioned above, make sure you have cleaned off the LED heads in your printer if you are getting faded images, white stripes, or blurred letters.

There is a tape seal that also must be removed the toner cartridge prior to installation.  Ensure that this tape was fully removed from the cartridge.

For light prints you can also try shaking the cartridge by holding it by its ends and gently rocking it side to side a few times to evenly distribute the toner powder inside the cartridge.

If thin white lines are appearing with one color or thin, dark lines or smudges appear in only one color when a light color is faded or blended with black then the LED heads need to be cleaned.  Clean the LED heads as explained in the previous instructions.

If the page has dark lines, smudges, or streaks through ALL colors then there is a cleaning function that can be ran.  To run this cleaning function, do the following;

–          On the control panel, select Troubleshooting, and then press the OK button.

–          Select Print Quality Issues, and then press the OK button.

–          Select Remove Print Smears, and then press the OK button.  Five cleaning pages will run through the printer.  You may need to run the cleaning multiple times.  If the problem isn’t resolved then you will need to replace the fuser.

If you are experiencing a repeating defect then you will need to narrow down what is causing the issue.  To assist in narrowing down the item causing the defect there is a function you can run on the printer.  To run this function, do the following;

–          On the control panel, select Troubleshooting, and then press the OK button.

–          Select Print Quality Problems, and then press the OK button.

–          Select Repeating Defects, and then press the OK button.  The Repeating Defects page prints.

–          Follow the instructions on the page to measure the distance between the defects and identify the item causing the defects.

–          Replace the item causing the defects.

Almost all ghost imaging, streaking, lines, or repetitive image defects will be an issue with the drum unit.  There are individual drum units for each color that will need to be replaced over time, usually after 4-6 toner cartridge changes.

Not Fitting

Verify you have the correct cartridges for your specific printer.  If the the cartridge appears too small then you removed the drum unit with the old toner cartridge and are attempting to install the cartridge into the printer without the drum unit.  Check your old toner cartridge and make sure the drum unit is not still attached.
