THIS IS NOT AN INKJET CARTRIDGE OR TONER CARTRIDGE; THIS IS A RIBBON CARTRIDGE FOR A DOT MATRIX PRINTER.
This is a compatible cartridge so there will be some differences from the OEM cartridge. These differences will NOT affect the function.
Not Recognizing
There is no smart chip or any kind of ID contact on this cartridge. Epson recommends the cartridge to be replaced once the prints become light.
To remove and install this cartridge into the Panasonic KX-P2123 printer do the following;
WARNING: You need to remove the print head by hand to replace the ribbon cartridge. If you have just used the printer, the print head may be hot; let it cool for a few minutes before touching it.
– Turn the printer off.
– Open the smoked plastic cover and then remove the top cover.
– Gently slide the carriage toward the center of the printer.
– Pull the old cartridge out by spreading the blue wing tab and lifting the cartridge up.
– Be sure the head gap lever is in the (+) position.
– Prior to installing the new cartridge, remove any slack on the ribbon by rotating the knob on the cartridge counterclockwise.
– Position the cartridge over the printhead and lower it in place (1). Visually ensure that the ribbon slips between the ribbon mask and the printhead nose. Gently, but firmly, press down on the rear of the cartridge until the blue wing tab snaps into place (2).
– Replace the top cover and close the smoked plastic cover.
– Reposition the head gap lever for the appropriate paper thickness.
Print Quality Issues
Verify the ribbon cartridge is fully inserted and properly installed into the printer. Check the ribbon slack.
If there are dots missing in the print then the paper thickness may be adjusting too far. Adjust the print head distance using the paper thickness lever on the printer. See the last step in the instructions outlined previously.
The print head will eventually wear out after a certain period of usage, if print quality isn’t improved with new ribbon cartridges then the print head may have an issue.
If the ribbon cartridge is continuously printing lightly then you can adjust the counter spring in the cartridge. To do the is gently push the counter spring through the re-ink hole with a ball point pen or other object.
If the light printing still persists then the cartridge is depleted and will need replacing.
Not Fitting
Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model.
Make sure the cartridge is being installed in the correct orientation. Using the instructions outlined above, verify the installation of the cartridge.
Check inside the printer for any obstructions. Check the cartridge itself for physical damage.
