THESE ARE JUST THE DRUM UNITS. THE TONER CARTRIDGES ARE SEPARATE, REPLACEABLE, MAINTENANCE ITEMS.
Not Recognizing
Verify you have the correct drum unit for your specific printer model.
There is a smart chip located on the top inside of the drum unit. Check the chip for damage or debris. A clean, dry, lint-free cloth can be used to gently wipe the gold contacts.
To remove and replace a drum unit in the Konica Minolta Magicolor 4650 Series printer do the following;
– Open the printer’s front cover.
– Pull the front lever of the color drum unit you are replacing. The replacement procedure is the same for all colors. The following instructions show the procedure with the black drum unit.
– Lower the lever to release the lock.
– Press down the area marked “Push” on the drum unit to be replaced, and then slide the unit all the way out of the printer.
– Make sure the new drum unit to be installed is the same color as the printer compartment, and then install the drum unit in the printer.
– Raise the front lever to its original position.
– Pull the lever to the left to lock it in place.
– Close the front cover.
Print Quality Issues
Remove the protective tape and then pull off the protective plastic cover.
Be sure not to touch the OPC surface on the drum unit. Fingerprint oil will cause damage to the OPC drum.
There is a pull tape seal which must be removed from the cartridge prior to installation.
If white lines are appearing on the pages then the laser lenses may be dirty inside the printer. The printer is constructed with four laser lenses. To clean them do the following;
– Open the printer’s front cover.
– Remove the cleaning tool from the machine’s front cover.
– Insert the laser lens cleaning tool into the laser lens cleaning opening, pull it out, and then repeat this back and forth movement 2-3 times. Clean between each of the laser lenses in the same way.
– Return the laser lens cleaning tool to its holder on the inside of the front cover. Close the front cover.
Try to determine if the print quality issue is occurring with one particular color or if it is happening across the entire page.
If the print looks light for a particular color, try removing that color toner cartridge from the printer and shake it gently to redistribute the toner powder inside. Sometimes the toner can become compacted inside the toner cartridge.
If the printing is still light on that color then you may need a new toner cartridge. The toner cartridges are replaceable, maintenance items and will need replacing after a certain period of usage.
Visually inspect the OPC drum for any debris or damage. Do NOT touch the OPC drum. A soft, clean, dry, lint-free, cloth can be used to gently wipe the OPC drum. Do NOT use moisture of any kind.
Not Fitting
Verify you have the correct drum unit for your specific printer model. Make sure you are replacing the drum unit and not the toner cartridge. Make sure the black paper has been removed. Check inside the printer for obstructions. Check the drum unit itself for physical damage.
