THIS IS A TONER THAT HAS THE IMAGING DRUM BUILT INTO THE CARTRIDGE ITSELF AND IS REPLACED AS ONE WHOLE UNIT.  THERE IS NO SEPARATE DRUM.

Not Recognizing

Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model.

Make sure the cartridge is installed correctly and is fully inserted into the printer.

To remove and install this cartridge into a Samsung ML-5000 Series printer do the following;

–          Open the printer cover by holding the cover using both hands and pulling it towards you.

–          Using the handle on the cartridge, pull the cartridge out from the printer.

–          Find the cartridge slots inside the printer, one on each side.

–          Grasp the handle and slide the new cartridge down between the toner cartridge slots, until it drops into place.

–          Close the printer cover.

Print Quality Issues

There is a pull tape seal on the side of the cartridge which must be removed prior to installation.  It is important that this pull tape seal is fully removed.  If the cartridge is printing blank or printed 1-3 pages and now prints blank, the pull tape seal hasn’t been removed or has broken off inside the cartridge while being removed.

There is a piece of paper held on by tape that protects the OPC drum which must be removed prior to installation.

Gently shake the toner cartridge from side to side 5-6 times to redistribute the toner.

If the toner is smearing off the paper or isn’t adhering properly, make sure the paper settings on the printer match the paper type being used.  Thicker paper, such as labels or bonded paper, require a different paper setting to allow more heating while printing to ensure the toner melts properly to the paper.  Trying to print on thicker paper while under that standard paper setting will cause the toner not to get enough heat to melt properly.

The OPC drum is located on the bottom of the cartridge protected by a spring loaded plastic shutter.  Lift the shutter to view the OPC drum.  Visually inspect the OPC drum for damage or debris.  Do NOT touch the OPC drum.  A soft, dry, clean, lint-free cloth can be used to gently wipe the drum.  Do NOT use moisture of any kind.

Not Fitting

Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model.  Check inside the printer for any obstructions which may be causing the cartridge not to fit.  Check the cartridge itself for physical damage.
