THIS IS A TONER THAT HAS THE OPC DRUM BUILT INTO THE CARTRIDGE ITSELF AND IS REPLACED AS ONE WHOLE UNIT. THERE IS NO SEPARATE DRUM UNIT.
As of Nov. 2012 the CE278UNIV we are shipping has been updated and WILL fit in both the HP and Canon printers, you no longer need to use specific part numbers.
NOTE: The older CE278UNIV does NOT fit as a Canon 128 (3500B001AA). We knew of the issue and shipped stand alone 128s until we received the updated CE278UNIVs. We are now shipping the updated universals that no longer have this issue. You can reship a new CE278UNIV to replace the older one that didn’t fit.
This is a universal cartridge that is used both as a HP CE278A and a Canon 128 toner cartridge.
Not Recognizing
Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model.
Ensure that the toner cartridge is properly installed and fully inserted.
There is a smart chip located on the cartridge. Make sure that the chip is clean and free of debris. A dry, soft, lint-free cloth can be used to gently clean the gold contacts.
To remove and install the toner cartridge into the Laserjet M1536DNF printers do the following;
– Open the print-cartridge door, and then remove the print cartridge.
– Insert the new print cartridge into the printer. Then, close the print cartridge door.
Print Quality Issues
There is a pull tape seal on the side of the cartridge that must be removed prior to installation. It is important that this seal is completely removed. If the cartridge is printing blank pages or after 2-3 pages it is now printing blank then the pull tape seal has not been removed or has broken off inside the cartridge while being removed.
Holding the cartridge by its ends, gently rock the cartridge back and forth a few times to redistribute the toner inside the cartridge.
If you are experiencing toner specks or dots on the printouts, the paper path needs to be cleaned. The printer has a built in cleaning function. To run this cleaning do the following;
– Press the Setup button.
– Use the arrow buttons to select the SERVICE menu, and then press the OK button.
– Use the arrow buttons to select the CLEANING PAGE item, and then press the OK button.
– Load plain white copy paper when you are prompted.
– Press the OK button again to confirm and begin the cleaning process. A page feeds through the printer slowly.
The OPC drum is located on the bottom of the cartridge covered by a spring loaded plastic shutter. Lift the shutter up to view the drum. Do NOT touch the OPC drum. You can use a clean, dry, lint-free cloth to gently clean the drum. Do NOT use moisture of any kind.
Not Fitting
Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model. Make sure the cartridge is being installed in the correct direction. Check inside the printer for any obstructions that may be interfering with the installation of the toner cartridge. Check the toner cartridge itself for physical damage. Verify that the pull tape seal has been removed from the side of the cartridge.
