THIS IS A TONER THAT HAS THE OPC DRUM BUILT INTO THE CARTRIDGE ITSELF AND IS REPLACED AS ONE WHOLE UNIT.  THERE IS NO SEPARATE DRUM UNIT.

Print Quality Issues

There is a pull tape seal on the side of the cartridge that must be removed prior to installation.  It is important that this seal is completely removed.  If the customer is saying the cartridge is printing blank pages or after 2-3 pages it is now printing blank then the pull tape seal has not been removed or has broken off inside the cartridge while being removed.

There is a piece of black paper held on by tape which wraps around the OPC drum that will need to be removed.

The OPC drum is located on the bottom of the cartridge covered by a spring loaded plastic shutter.  Lift the shutter up to view the drum.  Do NOT touch the OPC drum.  You can use a clean, dry, lint-free cloth to gently clean the drum.  Do NOT use moisture of any kind.

Holding the cartridge by its ends, gently rock the cartridge back and forth a few times to redistribute the toner inside the cartridge.

If you are getting spots or specks on the pages you can print a cleaning page to help resolve these issues.  To print the cleaning page with a printer that has a LCD screen do the following;

–          From the control panel, press the Setup button (has an icon of a wrench).

–          Open the Service menu.

–          Use the arrow keys to select the Cleaning Mode option, and then press OK.

To print the cleaning page with a printer that has a touchscreen do the following;

–          From the Home screen, touch the Setup button (has an icon of a gear with wrench).

–          Touch the Service menu.

–          Touch the Cleaning Page button.

–          Load plain paper when you are prompted.

–          Touch the OK button to begin the cleaning process.

On both instances, the printer prints the first side and then prompts you to remove the page from the output tray and reload it in Tray 1, keeping the same orientation.  Wait until the process is complete.  Discard the page when complete.

If the toner is smearing or rubbing off the page then the paper type setting may need to be adjusted to a thicker paper type setting.  When printing to label paper or card stock, the correct paper setting must be set on the printer to allow the toner to get the heat it needs to fuse properly to the page.  It may be necessary to change to a thicker paper setting even when printing to normal paper as different formulations in toner powder may require more heat to fuse properly.  If you are getting smearing or smudging, change to a thicker paper setting.

Not Fitting

Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model.  Make sure the cartridge is being installed in the correct direction.  Check inside the printer for any obstructions that may be interferring with the installation of the toner cartridge.  Check the toner cartridge itself for physical damage.  Verify that the pull tape seal has been removed from the side of the cartridge.
