THIS IS AN INK CARTRIDGE WITH THE PRINT HEAD INTEGRATED

The black PG240, PG-240XL, and PG-240XXL are pigment based ink.  The tri-color CL-241 and CL-241XL are dye based ink.

The cartridges designated with XL are the higher capacity cartridges which mean they contain more ink.  The PG-240XL and PG-240XXL cartridges are physically the same size as the standard yield PG-240 however the XL holds more ink inside.  The same goes for the tri-color CL-240 and high yield CL-240XL.  The PG-240XXL is an extra high yield black cartridge that contains more ink than the high yield XL and works only in select printer models.

Not Recognizing

Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific model printer.

The ink levels will NOT read correctly.  These cartridges will read low or empty.  With Canon printers the printer may not print with the cartridge reading low or empty.  To override this, press and hold down the Stop/Reset button (looks like an upside down triangle in a circle) for 10 seconds if an error message regarding the ink being empty appears and the printer refuses to print.  This will only need to be done once when a new remanufactured cartridge is installed.  After overriding the printer will continue to use the cartridge without stopping due to the ink level being low or empty.

On Canon printers with an integrated fax machine, sometimes incoming faxes will not print if a cartridge reads low or empty, even if the STOP button override has been done.  There is an option to force the printer to print even when the cartridges read low or empty that must be changed.  To do this;

–          On the printer menu go to Settings.

–          Go to Fax Settings.

–          Go to Auto print settings.

–          Select Print when no ink to Print.

.

There is a piece of tape that covers the print head on the bottom and wraps around to cover the contacts on the side.  Make sure the piece of tape has been removed.

Using a coffee filter or a lint-free cloth gently wipe the gold/copper connection points found on the side of the cartridge.  Sometimes if dried ink, finger print oil, or some of the tape residue stays on the contacts it can cause the cartridge not to recognize.

Any time there is a recognition issue it’s best to remove the cartridge and reset the printer.  To do this; remove the cartridge from the printer, disconnect the power cord for 10-15 seconds, reconnect the power cord, and reinstall the cartridge.  Make sure the cartridge is fully seated and installed properly.

To remove and install the PG-240, PG-240XL, PG-240XXL, CL-241, and CL-241XL cartridge into the Canon MX390 series printer, do the following;

–          With the printer on, open the front cover (C) and open the paper output tray (D).

–          Open the paper output cover (E).  When the ink cartridge holder moves to the replacement position, the cover (F) OPENS AUTOMATICALLY.

–          The black cartridge is located on the RIGHT and the tri-color is located on the LEFT.  Push down the ink cartridge lock lever until it clicks.  The example images show the removal of the tri-color cartridge, the process is the same for the black.

–          Remove the black cartridge located on the RIGHT or the tri-color located on the LEFT.

–          Insert the black cartridge into the RIGHT side of the cartridge holder or the tri-color cartridge into the LEFT side of the cartridge holder, all the way until it touches the back.

–          Push up the ink cartridge lock lever until it clicks into place, to lock the cartridge.

–          Close the paper output cover.

Print Quality Issues

The print head is located on the bottom of the cartridge.  Do NOT touch the print head with your fingers.  Verify the piece of tape has been removed.

–          Press the Setup button.

–          Use the ◄ or ► button to select Maintenance, then press the OK button.

To print the Nozzle Check Pattern on a printer that does not have an LCD menu screen, such as the MG3122, do the following;

–          Press the Maintenance button (the button has a small graphic icon of pliers and a screwdriver) to display the letter A.

–          Press the Color or Black button.

Take a warm damp paper towel or coffee filter and blot the cartridge with the print heads facing down onto the paper towel to remove the dried ink on the print head. Then, taking a DRY paper towel or coffee filter, hold the cartridge down against the paper towel for 2-3 minutes. A dry paper towel will wick the ink out. Do not wipe the print head as this may cause damage.

Not Fitting

Verify you have the correct cartridge for your particular printer model and that you purchased a yield cartridge your printer supports.

Make sure that any plastic protective clips have been removed.  If the cartridge appears too big or if you cannot see any of the gold connection points, there probably is a protective clip still installed on the cartridge.

Make sure that you are installing the black cartridge into the RIGHT slot of the cartridge carriage and the tri-color cartridge into the LEFT slot of the cartridge carriage.
