THESE TONER CARTRIDGES DO NOT HAVE THE OPC DRUM INTEGRATED INTO THE CARTRIDGE ITSELF. THERE IS A SEPARATE, REPLACEABLE, DRUM UNIT FOR EACH COLOR. BE SURE TO SEPARATE THE OLD DRUM UNIT FROM THE OLD TONER CARTRIDGE TO RE-USE IT WITH THE NEW TONER CARTRIDGE.
There are four colors in this series; Black, Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow.
These are compatible cartridges so there will be some differences from the OEM. These differences will not affect the function.
Not Recognizing
Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model.
This cartridge uses a RF or radio frequency sensor chip that’s located on the bottom of the cartridge. This chip does not make physical contact with the printer but rather sits in a specific position to be picked up by the printer’s sensor. Make sure that the cartridge is properly inserted and locks into place to ensure the chip is in the correct position. Try removing the cartridge, unplugging the power cord to the printer for 10 seconds, reconnecting the power cord, and reinstalling the cartridge. If the problem persists it is most likely an issue with the chip on the cartridge.
Make sure that the correct color is being installed into the correct slot in the printer.
To remove and install the cartridges into an Okidata C610 Series printer do the following;
– Push the cover release and open the printer’s top cover fully.
– Pull the colored toner release lever on the cartridge to be replaced fully towards the front of the printer (2a). Lift the right-hand end of the cartridge and then draw the cartridge to the right to release the left-hand end, and withdraw the cartridge out of the printer (2b).
– IMPORTANT: Make sure not to remove the drum unit along with the toner cartridge. If the toner looks like the image below this means the drum unit is still attached. Remove the drum unit and reinstall it back into the printer.
– Clean the top of the ID unit with a clean, lint free cloth.
– Make sure you have the correct color cartridge for the color you are replacing. Insert the left end of the cartridge into the top of the drum unit first, pushing it against the spring on the drum unit, then lower the right end of the cartridge down onto the drum unit.
– Pressing gently down on the cartridge to ensure that it is firmly seated, push the colored lever towards the rear of the printer. This will lock the cartridge into place and release toner into the drum unit.
– Gently wipe the LED head surface, located under the top cover, with a clean, lint free cloth.
– Close the top cover and press down firmly at both sides so that the cover latches closed.
Print Quality Issues
As mentioned above, make sure you have cleaned off the LED heads in your printer if you are getting faded images, white stripes, or blurred letters.
There is a tape seal that also must be removed the toner cartridge prior to installation. Ensure that this tape was fully removed from the cartridge.
For light prints you can also try shaking the cartridge by holding it by its ends and gently rocking it side to side a few times to evenly distribute the toner powder inside the cartridge.
Almost all ghost imaging, streaking, lines, or repetitive image defects will be an issue with the drum unit. There are individual drum units for each color that will need to be replaced over time, usually after 4-6 toner cartridge changes.
Not Fitting
Verify you have the correct cartridges for your specific printer.
If the the cartridge appears too small then you removed the drum unit with the old toner cartridge and are attempting to install the cartridge into the printer without the drum unit. Check your old toner cartridge and make sure the drum unit is not still attached.
Make sure you are installing the correct color cartridge into the correct color location.
