INK TANK – THESE CARTRIDGES DO NOT HAVE THE PRINT HEADS INTEGRATED.  DO NOT DO THE PAPER TOWEL METHOD ON THESE.  THESE ARE PIGMENT BASED INK.

These are compatible cartridges and may differ greatly in appearance to the OEM versions.  This will not affect the function.

In this series of cartridges is a Chroma Optimizer cartridge.  This cartridge helps enhance the density of the blacks in the print.

Not Recognizing

Verify you have the correct cartridges for your specific printer model.

There is a smart chip located on the top of the cartridge.  Check the chip for damage or debris.  A clean, soft, lint-free cloth can be used to gently clean the gold connections.

Check to make sure the correct color is being installed into the correct color slot.  This is especially important as this printer uses 12 different colors.  Make sure the cartridge is fully clicked into place.

To remove and install these cartridges into the Canon Pro-1 printer do the following;

–          Press the ink tank cover open button (A).  The tank cover open button flashes blue, and then the left and right tank covers start to open.  When the tank covers are fully open, the tank cover open button changes to a slower flash.

–          Remove the ink tank you are replacing.  Push the ink tank eject button (B) to remove it.

–          Make sure you have the correct color cartridge for the color being replaced.  Insert the cartridge into the correct color slot.

–          Press the on the cartridge firmly until it clicks into place.  The ink lamp lights red when the cartridge is installed properly.

–          Close the left and right tank covers until they click.  After ink tank replacement, the printer starts mixing the ink automatically and then the tank cover open button flashes blue.  The printer vibrates during mixing.  Wait until the ink tank cover button goes off and the printer stops making noises.  This takes around 1 minute.

Print Quality Issues

The ink nozzle is on the front of the cartridge.  The vent hole is located above the larger ink nozzle.  Make sure neither of these holes are obstructed.

Print head cleaning should be performed any time there is a print quality issue.  To clean the print heads do the following;

–          Select items from the Start menu as shown below:

If you are using Windows 7, select the Start menu -> Devices and Printers.

If you are using Windows Vista, select the Start menu -> Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Printers.

If you are using Windows XP, select the start menu -> Control Panel -> Printers and Other Hardware -> Printers and Faxes.

–          Right-click your model name icon, and then select Printing Preferences from the displayed menu.  The printer driver setup window appears.

–          Click the Maintenance tab then select Cleaning.

–          The print head cleaning dialog box opens.  Follow the instruction shown in the dialog box.  Click Initial Check Items to display the items you need to check before performing a cleaning.

–          Click Execute to begin the print head cleaning process.

Deep cleaning is more thorough than cleaning.  Perform deep cleaning when two cleaning attempts do not resolve the print head problem.  To run a deep cleaning do the following;

–          Click Deep Cleaning on the Maintenance tab.  The deep cleaning dialog box opens.  Follow the instruction shown in the dialog box.

–          Click Execute to begin the cleaning.  Click OK when the confirmation message appears.

Cleaning does consume ink so it should be done sparingly.
