THESE ARE INK TANKS; DO NOT PERFORM THE PAPER TOWEL METHOD.  THE PRINTHEADS ARE SEPARATE, REPLACEABLE, MAINTENANCE ITEMS.

These are compatible cartridges so there will be some differences from the OEM, these differences will not affect the function.  These are the 700ml high capacity version of the 330ml PFI-304 series cartridges.

There are many colors in this cartridge series, making sure the correct color is going into the correct spot is important.

Not Recognizing

Verify they have the correct cartridges for their specific printer model.

There’s a smart chip located on the front of the cartridge in a little notch area.  Check the chip for damage or debris.  A Q-tip can be used to reach inside the notch and clean the gold contacts.

Verify that the cartridge is fully inserted into the printer.  To remove and install the cartridges into a Canon iPF8300 printer do the following;

–          On the tab selection screen of the control panel, press ◄ or ► to select the ink tab.  Press the OK button

–          Press the ▲ or ▼ to select Rep. Ink Tank, and the press the OK button.  A message on the display screen requests you to open the ink tank cover.

–          Open the ink tank cover.  Select the color ink tank you are removing.

–          Lift the stopper (a) of the ink tank lock lever for the color to replace.  Lift the ink tank lock lever until it stops and then push it down to the front.

–          Hold the ink tank by the handle (a) and remove it.  Press the OK button.  Keep the removed bottle with the nozzle facing up to prevent ink from leaking.

–          Make sure you have the correct color ink tank for the one you are replacing.  Press the OK button and insert the ink tank into the correct color slots with the ink holes facing down.

–          Lift the ink tank lock lever until it stops, and then push it down until it clicks into place.

–          Make sure the ink lamp is lit in red for the ink tank.  If not, reload the ink tank.

–          Close the ink tank cover.  If the ink tank cover cannot close, make sure ink tank lock levers are fully closed.

Print Quality Issues

Using a paper towel to cover the ink nozzle holes, tilt the cartridge to left and right a few times.

A printhead cleaning should be performed any time there are print quality issues.  First run a nozzle check to determine if the nozzles need cleaning.  To run a nozzle check on the Canon iPF8300 do the following;

–          Press ▲ or ▼ to select the Nozzle Check, and then press the OK button.  The printer now prints a test pattern for checking the nozzles.

–          Check the printing results

–          Of the horizontal lines are not faint or incomplete, the nozzles are clear

–          If some sections of the horizontal lines are faint or incomplete, the nozzles for those colors are clogged

–          To run the printhead cleaning; on the tab selection screen of the control panel, press ◄ or ► to select the Settings/Adj tab.

–          Press the OK button.  The Set./Adj. Menu is displayed.

–          Press ▲ or ▼ to select Maintenance, and then press the OK button.

–          Press ▲ or ▼ to select Head Cleaning, and then press the OK button.

–          Press ▲ or ▼ to select Head Cleaning A or Head Cleaning B, and then press the OK button.  Head Cleaning A is for faded prints or light prints and takes 4 minutes to complete.  Head Cleaning B is if Head Cleaning A does not resolve the problem or if no ink is coming out at all.  It takes 5 minutes to complete.

The printheads will need to be replaced after a certain period of usage as part of the regular maintenance of the printer.

Not Fitting

Verify you have the correct cartridges for your specific printer model.  Be sure the correct color is being installed into the correct color slot.  Check inside the printer for any debris which may be obstructing the cartridge from going in properly.  Check the cartridge itself for physical damage.
