THESE TONER CARTRIDGES DO NOT HAVE THE IMAGING DRUM INTEGRATED.  THE DRUM UNITS ARE SEPARATE, REPLACEABLE, MAINTENACE ITEMS.  EACH COLOR HAS ITS OWN DRUM UNIT.

There are 4 colors in this series; Black, Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow.

These are remanufactured cartridges.  The black cartridge is physically larger than the colors.

Not Recognizing

Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific model printer.

Make sure the correct color is being installed into the correct slot.

These cartridges use a RF or radio frequency sensor chip that’s located on the inside end of each cartridge. This chip does not make physical contact with the printer but rather sits in a specific position to be picked up by the printer’s sensor. Make sure that the cartridge is properly inserted and locks into place to ensure the chip is in the correct position.  Try removing and reinstalling the cartridge as well as power cycling the printer. If the problem persists it is most likely an issue with the chip on the cartridge.

To remove and install these toner cartridges into a Lexmark X945E printer do the following;

–          Open the front printer door.

–          Unlock the color cartridge you are removing by turning the cartridge counterclockwise until the arrow-shaped handle points toward the unlock symbol.  Make sure to take note of the different locations of the 4 colors.

–          Remove the cartridge by gently pulling it away from the printer.

–          Make sure you have the correct color cartridge for the color you are replacing.  Align the arrow-shaped handle with the unlock symbol, and then insert the toner cartridge all the way into the correct color opening.

–          Lock the cartridge by turning the arrow-shaped cartridge handle clockwise until points toward the lock symbol.  Repeat the above steps for each color you are replacing.

–          Close the front door.

Print Quality Issues

There’s a piece of black tape covering the toner shutter that must be removed prior to installation.  Make sure this tape was removed.

There are print quality pages that can be printed to help diagnose and isolate print quality issues.  To print these pages, do the following;

–          Make sure plain copy paper is loaded.

–          Turn the printer off.

–          Hold down 2 and 6 while turning the printer on.

–          Release the buttons when the screen with the progress bar appears.  The printer performs a power-on sequence, and then the configuration menu appears.

–          On the display, touch ▼ repeatedly until Print Quality Pages appears.

–          Touch Print Quality Pages.  The print quality pages print.

–          Touch Exit Config Menu.

If you are experiencing light prints with a particular color, remove that color toner cartridge and gently roll it from side to side to redistribute the toner inside.  The toner can become accumulated to one side.

If white lines are appearing in the prints, then the printhead lenses may be dirty.  To clean the printhead lenses, do the following;

–          Open the front door and the inner door.

–          Remove the waste toner box.

–          Locate and remove the printhead lens cleaner on the back of the front door.

–          Insert the padded tip of the printhead lens cleaner into the first printhead lens opening.  Push the printhead lens cleaner all the way to the back of the lens, and then pull it out.

–          Clean the remaining three printhead lenses.

–          Insert the waste toner box.

–          Place the printhead lens cleaner in the notches of the front door.

–          Close the inner door.

–          Close the front door.

Almost all streaking, lines, ghost imaging, and repetitive print defects will be a result of an issue with that particular color’s drum unit.  The drum units are replaceable, maintenance items and will need to be changed after a certain period of usage as part of the normal operation of the printer.

Not Fitting

Make sure you have the correct cartridges for your specific printer model.  Verify the correct color is being installed into the correct color slot.  Check inside the printer for any obstructions or debris.  Check the cartridge itself for any physical damage.
