The 9J04203 toner cartridge and 4519401 drum unit are two separate units that are sold individually.  The drum unit generally needs replacing after 4-6 toner cartridge changes.  When replacing the toner cartridge the old drum unit MUST be separated from the old toner cartridge and re-used with the new toner cartridge unless a new drum is being installed as well.

Not Recognizing

Verify you have the correct toner cartridge or drum unit for your specific printer model.

There is a smart chip located on the bottom of the toner cartridge.  Check the gold contacts for damage or debris.  A Q-tip or lint-free cloth can be used to gently clean the contacts.

To replace the 9J04203 toner cartridge or 4519401 drum unit in the Konica Minolta PagePro 1400w printer do the following;

NOTE:  The procedure for replacing the drum unit is the same as replacing the toner cartridge.

–          Grab the front cover grip and open the front cover.

–          Pull the handle of the imaging cartridge toward you, and then pull out the imaging cartridge.

–          Move the blue lever on the toner cartridge in the direction of the arrow.

–          Using both hands, separate the toner cartridge and drum cartridge.  IMPORTANT:  Make sure to separate the drum unit from the old toner cartridge and re-use it with the new toner cartridge unless you are installing a new drum unit with the new toner cartridge.

–          While holding both the toner cartridge and the drum unit in your hands, align the colored guide on the drum unit with the matching colored boss on the toner cartridge to fit the two cartridges together.

–          Align the imaging cartridge with the guides in the printer, and then insert the cartridge.

–          Press on the front cover grip and close the front cover.

Print Quality Issues

The toner cartridge and drum unit are two separate pieces that install into each other.  When replacing the toner cartridge you MUST remove the old drum unit from the old toner cartridge and re-use it with the new toner cartridge.  Install the new toner cartridge into the old drum unit before installing them into the printer.  If the toner appears too small then you probably are attempting to install the toner cartridge on its own without the drum unit.  Make sure you install the toner into the drum first then install into the printer.  See the video linked in the instructions previously to see how to remove the toner from the drum.

There is a yellow plastic protective clip on the front of the toner cartridge which must be removed prior to installation.

Thoroughly shake the toner cartridge from side-to-side to distribute the toner.

Remove the toner cartridge from the drum unit to view the OPC drum.  A soft, clean, dry, lint-free cloth can be used to gently clean the OPC drum.  You can also use compressed air to help clean off any excess toner.  Do NOT use moisture of any kind.

Do NOT touch the rubber toner roller on the toner cartridge.

The drum unit is a maintenance item and will need to be replaced after around 20k pages.  Ghosting, streaking, and lines are generally a drum related issue.

Not Fitting

Be sure that the toner cartridge and drum unit are being installed as one unit.  Verify they have the correct cartridge or drum for their specific printer model.  Check inside the printer for any obstructions.  Check the cartridge and drum unit for physical damage.  Make sure that the toner cartridge is fully locked into place in the drum unit.
