THIS IS A TONER THAT HAS THE OPC DRUM BUILT INTO THE CARTRIDGE ITSELF AND IS REPLACED AS ONE WHOLE UNIT.  THERE IS NO SEPARATE DRUM UNIT.

Not Recognizing

Verify they have the correct cartridge for their specific printer model.

Verify that the cartridge is properly installed and that it is fully inserted into the printer.  Also, check to make sure the printer cover is completely closed.

To remove and install the FX5 into a Canon Laser Class 8000 series printer do the following;

–          Pull up on the lever above the ▲ mark to open the printer cover.

–          Grab the cartridge by its handle and pull it from the printer.

–          Load the new cartridge in the direction indicated by the arrow.  Gently slide the cartridge into the printer area until it is down inside the printer and level.

–          Shut the printer cover until you hear it lock.

Print Quality Issues

There is a pull tape seal on the side of the cartridge which must be removed prior to installation.  It is important that this pull tape seal is fully removed.  If the cartridge is printing blank pages or if the cartridge printer 2-3 pages and now is printing blank, then the pull tape seal hasn’t been removed or has broken off inside the cartridge while being removed.

Hold the cartridge by the ends and rotate it slowly in the direction of the arrows 5 or 6 times to redistribute the toner evenly inside the cartridge.

If the toner is smearing off the paper or isn’t adhering properly, make sure the paper settings on the printer match the paper type being used.  Thicker paper, such as labels or bonded paper, require a different paper setting to allow more heating while printing to ensure the toner melts properly to the paper.  Trying to print on thicker paper while under that standard paper setting will cause the toner not to get enough heat to melt properly.

The OPC drum is located on the bottom of the cartridge protected by a spring loaded plastic shutter.  Lift the shutter to visually inspect the OPC drum for damage or debris.  Do NOT touch the drum.  A soft, clean, dry, lint-free cloth can be used to gently clean the OPC drum if needed.  Do NOT use moisture of any kind.

Not Fitting

Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model.  Make sure the cartridge is being installed in the correct direction.  Check inside the printer for any obstructions that may be interfering with the installation of the toner cartridge.  Check the toner cartridge itself for physical damage.  Verify that the pull tape seal has been removed from the side of the cartridge.
