The CE505X (Canon 3480B001AA) is the high capacity version of the CE505A (Canon 3479B001AA) toner cartridge.  The 05X (Canon 3480B001AA) is physically larger than the 05A (Canon 3479B001AA).

NOTE:  The CE505X is NOT compatible in the P2035 or P2035n printers.  The CE505A must be used in these printers.

Not Recognizing

Verify they have the correct cartridge for their specific printer model.

There’s a smart chip located on the front of the toner cartridge which has two gold connection points.  Make sure the chip is clean and undamaged.  You can use a dry, clean, lint-free cloth to clean the connections.

Ensure that the toner cartridge is properly installed and fully inserted.

To remove and install the toner cartridge into the Laserjet P2055DN series printers do the following;

NOTE:  The procedure is similar for other printers that use these toner cartridges.  For specific instructions for a particular printer model please refer to the User’s Guide for that printer available on HP’s website.

–          Push the button to open the print-cartridge door, and then remove the print cartridge.

–          Align the new print cartridge with the tracks inside the printer, insert the print cartridge until it is firmly seated, and then close the print-cartridge door.

Print Quality Issues

There is a pull tape seal on the side of the cartridge that must be removed prior to installation.  It is important that this seal is completely removed.  If the cartridge is printing blank pages or after 2-3 pages it is now printing blank then the pull tape seal has not been removed or has broken off inside the cartridge while being removed.

The OPC drum is located on the bottom of the cartridge covered by a spring loaded plastic shutter.  Lift the shutter up to view the drum.  Do NOT touch the OPC drum.  You can use a clean, dry, lint-free cloth to gently clean the drum.  Do NOT use moisture of any kind.

Holding the cartridge by its ends, gently rock the cartridge back and forth a few times to redistribute the toner inside the cartridge.

If the toner is smearing off the paper or isn’t adhering properly, make sure the paper settings on the printer match the paper type being used.  Thicker paper, such as labels or bonded paper, require a different paper setting to allow more heating while printing to ensure the toner melts properly to the paper.  Trying to print on thicker paper while under that standard paper setting will cause the toner not to get enough heat to melt properly.

During the printing process, paper, toner, and dust particles can accumulate inside the printer.  Over time, this build up can cause print quality issues such as toner specks or smearing.  The printer has a cleaning mode that can correct and prevent these issues.  To run this cleaning mode do the following;

–          Open the HP ToolboxFX by double clicking on the icon in your Window’s system tray or on your desktop.  It will also be in your Start menu under Programs > HP > and HP LaserJet P2050 Series.

–          Click the Device Settings folder, and then click the Troubleshooting page.

–          In the area for Cleaning Mode, click Start to begin the cleaning process.  The printer processes a single page, and then returns to the ready state when the cleaning process is complete.

Not Fitting

Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model.  Make sure the cartridge is being installed in the correct direction.  Check inside the printer for any obstructions that may be interferring with the installation of the toner cartridge.  Check the toner cartridge itself for physical damage.  Verify that the pull tape seal has been removed from the side of the cartridge.
