THESE TONER CARTRIDGES DO NOT HAVE THE OPC DRUM INTEGRATED.  THE DRUM UNIT IS A SEPARATE, REPLACEABLE, MAINTENANCE ITEM.

There are 4 colors in this series; Black, Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow.

These are compatible cartridges so their appearance may differ greatly from the OEM.  They will still work and their appearance differences will have no effect on their performance.

Not Recognizing

Verify they have the correct cartridges for their specific model printer.

This cartridge uses a RF or radio frequency sensor chip that’s located on the bottom of the cartridge. This chip does not make physical contact with the printer but rather sits in a specific position to be picked up by the printer’s sensor. Make sure that the cartridge is properly inserted and locks into place to ensure the chip is in the correct position. If the problem persists it is most likely an issue with the chip on the cartridge.

It is important to make sure the cartridge is installed correctly and fully locked into place.  To remove and install the toner cartridges into a Brother HL-4200 printer do the following;

–          Remove the top cover and place it on a flat surface.

–          Grip the levers at the ends of the color toner cartridge that you want to replace and pull them up.  Make sure to take note of the different locations of the colors.

–          Pull out the toner cartridge.

–          Make sure you have the correct color toner cartridge for the color being replaced.  Align the toner cartridge with the corresponding insertion point in the printer and insert it.

–          Grips the levers at each end of the toner cartridge with your fingers, then push down firmly to rotate the levers forward to the lock position.

–          Replace the top cover.

Print Quality Issues

Gently shake the toner cartridge from side to side to loosen and distribute the toner powder evenly inside the cartridge.

Verify that the cartridge is fully locked inside the printer.  When the cartridge is locked this opens the toner shutters on the cartridge which releases the toner powder into the drum unit.  If the cartridge is not fully locked then the toner powder will not release properly from the cartridge.

There is a pull tape seal that must be removed from the cartridge.  Be sure that the pull tape has been fully removed.

Streaking, lines, ghost imaging, and repeating image defects are drum related issues.  The drum unit is a separate, replaceable, maintenance item.  After a certain period of usage the drum unit will need to be replaced.

Not Fitting

Make sure that you are installing the toner cartridge into the drum unit.  Verify that the drum unit has not been removed from the printer.  If the cartridge appears too small then you are not installing it into the drum unit.

Make sure the correct color cartridge is being installed into the correct color slot in the drum unit.

Verify that the cartridge lock lever in the printer is unlocked.  It should be pushed towards the front of the printer.  If the cartridge lock lever is in the locked position then the cartridge will not be able to fit into the slot on the drum.
