THIS IS A TONER THAT HAS THE IMAGING DRUM BUILT INTO THE CARTRIDGE ITSELF AND IS REPLACED AS ONE WHOLE UNIT. THERE IS NO SEPARATE DRUM.
Not Recognizing
Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer.
There is a smart chip located on the front of the cartridge. Check the chip for damage or debris. You can use a Q-tip to reach and clean the four contacts.
Make sure the cartridge is installed correctly and is fully inserted into the printer.
Samsung has a reputation of doing stealth firmware updates, where they disguise a firmware update as a routine update. A firmware update may lock out the use of aftermarket cartridges. Usually when a firmware updates goes through cartridges that were once working will no longer read and/or a cartridge gives an incompatible error and you try others (reships, multiples in the same order, etc) which also won’t recognize.
To remove and install the toner cartridge in a Samsung SCX-5635FN printer do the following;
– Open the front door.
– Pull the toner cartridge out.
– Hold the new toner cartridge by the handle and slowly insert the cartridge into the opening in the printer. Tabs on the sides of the cartridge and corresponding grooves within the printer will guide the cartridge into the correct position until locks into place completely.
– Close the front door. Make sure that the cover is securely closed.

Print Quality Issues
There is an orange plastic protective cover on the bottom of the cartridge which must be removed prior to installation.
Holding both sides of the cartridge, thoroughly rock it from side to side to evenly distribute the toner.
If the toner is smearing off the paper or isn’t adhering properly, make sure the paper settings on the printer match the paper type being used. Thicker paper, such as labels or bonded paper, require a different paper setting to allow more heating while printing to ensure the toner melts properly to the paper. Trying to print on thicker paper while under that standard paper setting will cause the toner not to get enough heat to melt properly.
The OPC drum is located on the bottom of the cartridge. Do NOT touch the drum. Visually inspect the OPC drum for damage or debris. A soft, clean, dry, lint-free cloth can be used to gently clean the OPC drum. Care must be taken while handling the cartridge as there is no plastic shutter protecting the OPC drum on the bottom so it can easily be nicked or scratched when set on surfaces or handled.

During the printing process, paper toner, and dust particles can accumulate inside the printer. This buildup can cause print quality issues, such as toner specks or smearing. Cleaning the inside of the printer clears or reduces these problems. To clean inside the printer do the following;
– Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord.
– Open the front door and pull the toner cartridge out.
– With a dry, lint-free cloth, wipe away any dust and spilled toner from the toner cartridge area. Do NOT use moisture of any kind.
– Locate the long strip of glass (LSU) inside the top of the cartridge compartment and gently clean the glass with a swab.
– Reinsert the toner cartridge and close the front door.
– Plug in the power cord and turn the printer on.
Leaking
This toner does not have any pull seal tabs and as a result a little toner dust on the cartridge is normal. The protective paper cover that covers the OPC drum has a piece of foam that covers the drum to help collect any loose toner dust. However, vibrations during shipping may cause the roller to rotate a little and allow a little toner powder to leak. This is normal. You can clean excess toner dust off the cartridge by gently wiping the cartridge with a clean, dry, lint-free cloth or gently blowing on it. Be careful with compressed air as this may blow too powerfully and blow toner powder out of the cartridge. Do NOT use moisture of any kind.
Not Fitting
Verify you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer model. Check inside the printer for any obstructions which may be causing the cartridge not to fit. Check the cartridge itself for physical damage.
