THESE TONER CARTRIDGES DO NOT HAVE THE OPC DRUM INTEGRATED INTO THE CARTRIDGE ITSELF.  THERE IS A SEPARATE, REPLACEABLE, DRUM UNIT FOR EACH COLOR.  BE SURE TO SEPARATE THE OLD DRUM UNIT FROM THE OLD TONER CARTRIDGE TO RE-USE IT WITH THE NEW TONER CARTRIDGE.

There are 4 colors in this series; Black, Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow.

These are compatible cartridges so there will be some differences from the OEM.  These differences will not affect the function.

Not Recognizing

Verify they have the correct cartridge for their specific printer model.

This cartridge uses a RF or radio frequency sensor chip. This chip does not make physical contact with the printer but rather sits in a specific position to be picked up by the printer’s sensor. Make sure that the cartridge is properly inserted and locks into place to ensure the chip is in the correct position. If the problem persists it is most likely an issue with the chip on the cartridge.

Make sure that the correct color is being installed into the correct slot in the printer.

To remove and install the cartridges into an Okidata C830 Series printer do the following;

–          Press the cover release and open the printer’s top cover fully.

–          Pull the colored toner release lever (a) on the color to be replaced fully towards the front of the printer.

–          Lift the right-hand end of the cartridge and then draw the cartridge to the right to release the left-hand as shown in the image above, and remove the toner cartridge (b).

–          IMPORTANT:  Make sure not to remove the drum unit along with the toner cartridge.  If the toner looks like the image below this means the drum unit is still attached.  Remove the drum unit and reinstall it back into the printer.

–          Make sure you have the correct color cartridge for the color being replaced.  Insert the left end of the cartridge into the top of the image drum unit first (a), pushing it against the spring on the drum unit, then lower the right end of the cartridge down onto the image drum unit (b).  Pressing gently down on the cartridge to ensure that it is firmly seated, push the colored lever (c) towards the rear of the printer.  This will lock the cartridge into place and release the toner into the image drum unit.

To avoid print quality issues, the LED heads located under the top cover MUST be cleaned when a new toner cartridge is installed.  To clean the LED heads do the following;

–          Gently wipe the LED head surface, located under the top cover, with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth.  Do NOT use moisture of any kind.  Do NOT use methyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol), permanent damage WILL occur.

–          Close the top cover.

Print Quality Issues

As mentioned above, make sure you have cleaned off the LED heads in your printer if you are getting faded images, white stripes, or blurred letters.

There is a tape seal that also must be removed the toner cartridge prior to installation.  Ensure that this tape was fully removed from the cartridge.

For light prints you can also try shaking the cartridge by holding it by its ends and gently rocking it side to side a few times to evenly distribute the toner powder inside the cartridge.

Almost all ghost imaging, streaking, lines, or repetitive image defects will be an issue with the drum unit.  There are individual drum units for each color that will need to be replaced over time, usually after 4-6 toner cartridge changes.

Not Fitting

Verify you have the correct cartridges for your specific printer.  If the the cartridge appears too small then you removed the drum unit with the old toner cartridge and are attempting to install the cartridge into the printer without the drum unit.  Check your old toner cartridge and make sure the drum unit is not still attached.
