THIS IS NOT A TONER CARTRIDGE.  THIS IS JUST THE DRUM UNIT.

Not Recognizing

Verify they have the correct cartridge for their specific printer model.

This drum unit does not have a smart chip.  The drum counter must be MANUALLY reset when a new drum is installed.  Failure to reset the drum counter when a new drum is installed will cause the printer to still read the drum as needing replacing or cause the printer to display the replace drum message before the drum actually needs replacing.

To remove and replace the drum unit in a Sharp FO-5500 machine do the following;

–          Press the button on the side of the printer compartment, and open the printer cover.

–          Grasp the handle on the toner cartridge, and pull the toner cartridge out of the compartment.

–          Pull the old drum unit out of the printer.

–          Align the arrowhead on the right side of the drum unit with the arrowhead pointing down which is marked on the right side of printer compartment, and insert the drum unit into the compartment so that the ends of the drum unit move along the guides on the sides of the compartment.  Make sure the drum unit is set firmly in place.

–          Hold the handle of the toner cartridge and insert the cartridge into the compartment so that the two knobs on each side of the cartridge move along the two guides on each side of the compartment.  Press the handle down so that the cartridge sets into place.

–          Close the printer cover.

–          Once the new drum is installed you MUST reset the drum counter MANUALLY.  To do this press the LIFE key, the “3” key, and the START key.  This will reset the drum counter.

Print Quality Issues

The OPC drum is protected by a spring loaded plastic shutter.  Lift the shutter to visually inspect the OPC drum.  Do NOT touch the drum.  A dry, soft, clean, lint-free cloth can be used to gently wipe the OPC drum if needed.  Do NOT use moisture of any kind.

Light printing may be toner cartridge related.  Try shaking the toner cartridge.

Streaking, lines, ghost imaging, and repeating image defects are usually drum related issues.

Not Fitting

Verify they have the correct drum unit for their specific printer model.  Make sure they are not trying to replace a toner cartridge, this is just an imaging drum unit. Check inside the printer for any obstructions.  Check the drum unit itself for physical damage.
