THIS IS A TONER THAT HAS THE OPC DRUM BUILT INTO THE CARTRIDGE ITSELF AND IS REPLACED AS ONE WHOLE UNIT.  THERE IS NO SEPARATE DRUM UNIT.

The X651H11A is a high yield toner cartridge and the X654X11A is the extra high yield toner cartridge which means it contains more toner to allow for more prints.

Not Recognizing

Verify they have the correct cartridge for their specific printer model.

There is a smart chip located on the front inside of the cartridge.  Check the chip for damage or debris.  A clean, dry, lint-free cloth can be used to gently wipe the gold contacts.

Check to make sure the cartridge is installed correctly and fully inserted into the printer.  There are tabs on each side of the print cartridge that align with slots on each side of the print cartridge cradle inside the printer.  Slide the print cartridge into the printer until it snaps into place.

To remove and install the toner cartridge in a Lexmark X648 Series printer do the following;

–          Open the front cover.

–          Slide the release to the right and pull up the toner cover.

–          Pull the toner cartridge out from the printer.

–          Insert the new cartridge into the printer using the guide rails in the printer to guide the cartridge to the proper position.  Make sure the cartridge is fully inserted.

–          Close the toner cover.

–          Close the front cover.

Print Quality Issues

There is a red plastic protective piece that must be removed prior to installation.

Grab the cartridge by its sides and gently roll back and forth a few times to redistribute the toner.

The OPC drum is located on the bottom of the cartridge.  Be careful with placing the cartridge down on a surface as the OPC drum is easily nicked, dented, or damaged.  Visually inspect the OPC drum for damage or debris.  Do NOT touch the OPC drum.  A soft, lint-free, dry, clean cloth can be used to gently clean the drum.  Do NOT use moisture of any kind.

Compressed air can be used to clean inside the printer with the toner cartridge removed.  Excess toner powder build up inside the printer can cause dots, excess loose toner on the page, or noises and blowing compressed in the printer can help clear out the excess toner dust.  Do NOT use moisture of any kind.

Not Fitting

Verify they have the correct cartridge for their specific printer model.  Check to make sure all the seals have been removed from the cartridge.  Check inside the printer to see if there’s any debris that may be causing the cartridge not to fit.  Make sure the cartridge is being installed into the guides built into the inside of the printer.
