THESE CARTRIDGES DO NOT HAVE THE OPC DRUM UNIT INTEGRATED.  THERE IS AN INDIVIDUAL DRUM UNIT FOR EACH COLOR WHICH IS A REPLACEABLE MAINTENANCE ITEM.

There are 4 colors in this series; Black, Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow.

These are the extra high yield versions of the C5240 high yield cartridges.  These can only be used in the C534 series printer.

Not Recognizing

Verify they have the correct drum unit for their specific model printer.

Make the toner cartridge is properly installed and fully inserted into the printer.  Be sure they are installing the correct color into the correct spot.

To remove and install the toner cartridges in a Lexmark C534 Series printer do the following;

–          Grasp the handhold.

–          Open the upper door fully.  Grasp the inner door handle and pull to open both the inner and lower doors.

–          Check the locations of the different color cartridges.  Lift the small toner cartridge handles slightly and pull the cartridge needing replacement straight out.

–          Make sure you have the correct color cartridge for the color being replaced.  Insert the cartridge into the correct color slot and make sure that it is fully pushed in.

–          Close the lower door and upper door.

Print Quality Issues

There is a piece a paper held on by tape that needs to be removed and then a black paper seal that will need to be pulled prior to installation.

The drum is separate from the cartridge.  There is an individual drum for each color.  The drums are located on the front panel of the printer that they open to access the toner cartridges.  To help isolate print quality problems, print the print quality test pages.  To do this, do the following;

–          Turn the printer off.

–          From the control panel, press and hold the check mark button and ► while turning the printer on.

–          Release both buttons when PERFORMING SELF TEST appears.  The printer performs its power-on sequence, and then CONFIG MENU appears.

–          Press ▼ until PRT QUALITY PGS appears, and then press the check mark button.  The pages are formatted.  PRINTING QUALITY TEST PAGES appears, and then the pages print.

–          After the print quality test pages print, press ▼ until EXIT CONFIG MENU appears, and the press the check mark button.

Use the print quality pages to help try to determine what print quality issue is occurring and if the problem is present across all the colors or just one color in particular.

For minor print quality issues the printhead lenses may be dirty and should be cleaned.  To clean the printhead lenses do the following;

–          Open the upper and inner doors.

–          Remove all four toner cartridges.  Do NOT remove the drum units from the front cover.

–          The printhead lenses are located in the area behind where the toner cartridges were located.  Clean the lenses with a can of compressed air or a soft, dry, lint-free, cloth.  Do NOT use moisture of any kind.

Almost all ghost imaging, lines, streaks, and repeating image defects will be caused by a bad drum.  The drums are replaceable maintenance items that will need to be replaced usually after 4-6 toner changes.  We do not currently carry replacement drum units.

If the toner is smearing off the paper or isn’t adhering properly, make sure the paper settings on the printer match the paper type being used.  Thicker paper, such as labels or bonded paper, require a different paper setting to allow more heating while printing to ensure the toner melts properly to the paper.  Trying to print on thicker paper while under that standard paper setting will cause the toner not to get enough heat to melt properly.

There is a roller on the front of the toner cartridge that dispenses the toner powder onto the separate OPC drum.  You can check this roller for cracks or damage.  Do NOT touch the roller.  Being that this dispenses toner powder it is normal for this roller to be coated in toner powder.  Do not wipe the toner powder off the roller.  Be careful in handling the cartridge as slight toner powder leakage is possible if the roller is moved.

Over a trash can, shake the cartridge front to back and side to side to redistribute the toner powder inside the cartridge.

Not Fitting

Verify they have the correct cartridges for their specific printer model.  Make sure the correct color cartridge is being installed into the correct color slot.  Verify that all seals and protective pieces of paper that may be present on the cartridge are removed.  Check inside the printer for any obstructions.  Check the cartridge itself for physical damage.
