THESE CARTRIDGES DO NOT HAVE THE OPC DRUM UNIT INTEGRATED. THERE IS A SEPARATE OPC DRUM UNIT AS WELL AS A SEPARATE FUSING UNIT THAT INSTALL INTO THE PRINTER.
There are four colors in this series; Black, Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow.
These are compatible cartridges so there will be differences from the OEMs. These differences will not affect the function.
Not Recognizing
Verify they have the correct cartridge for their specific model printer.
Make sure the cartridge is installed properly into the printer and the correct color is in the correct slot.
To remove and install these toner cartridges into a Brother MFC-9420 printer do the following;
– Open the front cover of the printer.
– Pull out the color toner cartridge that needs replacing.
– Make sure to make note of the different slot locations for the colors.
– Put in the new toner cartridge by positioning it on the guide on the correct color slot. Slide it gently into the printer. Do NOT try to push or lock the new toner cartridge in, it MUST rest loosely in the guide rails and will automatically be positioned properly when the front cover is closed.
– Close the front cover.
Print Quality Issues
There is an orange plastic protective clip that must be removed prior to installation.
Holding the cartridge by its ends, gently rock it left to right a few times to redistribute the toner powder.
The toner cartridges themselves have rubber rollers on them that is used to dispense the toner powder. You can check the rubber rollers for cracks or damage. Do NOT touch the rubber roller and do NOT clean it off. Toner powder on the rubber is normal and must NOT be wiped off.
If white lines or toner specks are appearing on the prints then the laser glass is dirty inside the printer. To clean the laser glass do the following;
– Turn off the power and unplug the power cord.
– Open the scanner unit.
– Open the inside cover so that it latches under the scanner unit.
– To release the lock, push the green belt cartridge lock levers that are on both sides inwards.
– Remove the OPC belt cartridge from the printer.
– Open the front cover of the printer.
– Take all of the toner cartridge out of the printer.
– Clean the surface of the laser unit with a dry, soft, lint-free cloth. Do NOT use moisture of any kind.
– Open the laser glass cover.
– Clean the surface of the laser glass with a dry, soft, lint-free cloth. Do NOT use moisture of any kind.
– Close the laser glass cover.
– Put all the toner cartridges and the OPC belt cartridge back in the printer. Do NOT try to push or lock the toner cartridges in. They must rest loosely in the guide rails.
– Close the front cover and the inside cover, and then close the scanner unit.
– Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
Almost all issues with ghosting, lines, streaking, or repetitive print defects will be an issue with the separate OPC drum unit. The toner cartridges do not have the OPC drum built in. The OPC drum and the fuser unit are two separate, replaceable, maintenance items. The OPC drum will usually need to be replaced after 4-6 toner changes while the fuser unit may last 6-8 toner changes.
Not Fitting
Verify they have the correct cartridges for their specific printer. Make sure they are installing the correct color into the correct color slot in the printer. With these cartridges you do NOT want to push them all the way into the printer and try to lock them in place. They should be left loose in the guide rails and will automatically go into position once the front cover is closed. Make sure any protective paper or tape has been removed. Check inside the printer for obstructions. Check the cartridge itself for physical damage.
